Unable to open a file in Paint

Solved

Hello,

I have a big problem with one of my bitmap files that I created myself in Paint.
I should mention that it's a large file:

Dimensions: 14129x7063 pixels
Size: 677KB

I haven't worked on it for 5 months and yet I had no issues back then. Now that I need it again, especially to make a few modifications, I can't open it in Paint.

It shows me:
"Paint cannot read this file. This file is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not supported."

It's an incomprehensible message, and I wonder where to find the solution to my problem.
Thank you for your help.
Please.

Hello,

Can a bitmap of this resolution weigh less than 1 megabyte...?

Thank you for letting me know that my file is likely corrupted.
Do you know a way to fix it?
Thank you.

Yes, proof! I'm not mistaken about the dimensions or the size of the file I retrieved from the Windows explorer after selecting the image in question.

But that doesn't answer my question.

Why?
Is an answer with a solution mandatory?
Can't we highlight a potential oddity to try to understand?

In that case, too bad...!!!

Jimpix answered your question:

An image of this dimension (14129x7063 pixels) cannot weigh 677 KB. If it does, it is corrupted, and that is why you cannot open it.

For your information: an image of 14129x7063 pixels represents 99 million pixels and a raw size of 300 MB.

Thank you very much!
With photorec it didn't work, but Paint.net allowed me to reopen my file.

Thank you

Hello
try paint.net. It can't read corrupted files but supports several formats, just as simple as paint but with additional features (especially the saved file size is very easy to manage when you want a small file to send).

Try photorec, it doesn't allow you to edit images but can sometimes recover corrupted images.
