Issue opening CIEL accounting software on Windows 8.1

Hello,
I have an accounting software CIEL personal account 2013. Since the Windows 8.1 update, I can no longer use it. An error message ***CONFIG ERROR 4*** Source file: CamConfig.cpp (767) appears.

Do you have a solution to resolve this issue?

    I had the same problem when upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. So I called CIEL, who firmly told me that my 2013 accounting version could not run on Windows 8.1 without purchasing the CIEL 2014 upgrade. Despite my protests, I could not get any further information, either from maintenance or from the sales department.
    Within an hour, I received a quote for 490.80 for the upgrade of my software + maintenance contract. I paid 161.40 euros for my software at FNAC in May 2013 !!!!!!
    I therefore thank everyone who has experienced this and who indicated the steps to follow:
    Uninstall CIEL COMPTA and then reinstall in Windows 7 compatibility
    It worked immediately. I requested an activation key again and everything is working perfectly. It didn't cost me a dime.
    This attitude from CIEL corresponds, for me, to forced selling and falls under the jurisdiction of the DCCRF
    I am considering putting together a file because I'm fed up with being taken for a ride.
    If you don't search the forums, you get trapped.

      Thank you ciboulette05 for the explanations. I followed the 5-minute steps to get Ciel back up and running to the letter. The best part is understanding the activation key code; the person on the phone at Ciel speaks so softly that you can’t hear anything. But I had sent an email to Ciel support twice, and they replied after I followed up, but they don't really provide the solution.

      Glad if I could be of help. Fortunately, there are forums because, as far as CIEL is concerned, they treat us rather with disdain. As far as I'm concerned, I will remember this when I need to buy new accounting software.

      I seem to have the same issue as you! I would like to follow the process, but at what point do I need to select Windows 7 compatibility? And will all the data be retrieved despite the lack of a backup?

      I have the same problem, I purchased the software less than 6 months ago. I contacted Ciel this morning, they asked me for about €850 (for a 1-year technical support subscription) to help me solve the issue.

      When I told him that given the price, I would prefer to buy new software, he replied that it was pointless, that the new one wouldn't work either, and that the 30 days of free support only apply to usage, not functional assistance.

      He is not trying to pressure us!!!!......

    Hello,

    I have the same problem with Ciel Devis Facture 2013. I installed Windows 8.1 and since then I get an error message: Damaged application, Source file: CamConfig.cpp (507).
    I have tried to resolve the compatibility issues but there has been no change.
    Do you have a solution to fix this problem?

      Mon Ciel Compta Evolution (version 12.6) is bugging under Windows 10 but only for opening certain files... No way I'm giving in to Ciel's extortion.
      A solution?

    Hello,

    I had the same issue with Ciel DUO (Accounting 19.0 + Invoices Estimates 12.0)
    The issue appeared after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1 but it is valid for every version jump.
    I solved it by uninstalling the previous installation of Ciel and reinstalling it in administrator mode.

    If that doesn't work, add compatibility mode (to Windows 7) in properties.

    When restarting, you will need to redo the referencing after calling Ciel for the first time to cancel the previous referencing (guided by the software)

    This applies to the different error codes on ***CONFIG ERROR 4*** Source file: CamConfig.cpp(767 in my case)

    It's so easy to copy the install.exe to the desktop and run it in Windows 7 compatibility as admin
    IT WORKS
    I struggled for two days before finding out
    However, Ciel tells me that it doesn't work and that I need to buy version 12!!!!

    Hello,
    I just installed Ciel Compta VS 7 (yes, the one from 2001) on Windows 8.1. The program works because it is 32-bit. The catch is the 16-bit installer that prevents it from being installed.
    I proceeded as follows:

    1) I copied the entire directory c:\ciel from my old computer running on XP SP3 and put it at the root of c:\ on the new computer running Windows 8.1.
    2) Then I forced the installation of 3 dll/ocx files.
    3) Copied (from the XP machine) the following files
    portal.dll - vcfi5.ocx - crun500.dll into the c:\windows\system32 directory under Windows 8.1
    4) Switch to administrator mode and launch the command prompt (admin) => Windows key + X
    5) Run this command line for each file to register the files in the registry
    c:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\portal.dll
    6) Restart Windows
    7) Launch ciel w7.exe from the ciel directory
    8) Follow the referencing procedure by printing the Ciel form (alt + P when opening the form submission window)

    No! It is the same except that some applications have been renamed or relocated and 3 or 4 have been removed.
    The drivers too; some need to be updated.

    I see no technical reason why Ciel doesn't run on Windows 8.1, whereas other software works fine on this update. One might wonder if the software was programmed to crash starting from a certain version of Windows to force an upgrade sale...

    Moreover, Ciel has abruptly stopped the development of Ciel Compta Professionnel 2013, thus leaving its customers in a bind, and forcing the sale of updates, even though the software was marketed less than a year ago...

    Ciel offers an upgrade to another solution in which the billing software no longer automatically posts accounting entries... Soon we’ll be back to an abacus for the next version of Ciel...

    If Ciel had tested its software on the beta versions of Windows 8.1, the problem could have been anticipated, and customers warned... Instead, Ciel prefers to leave its customers stuck with their accounting in order to sell an update.

    The way Ciel treats its customers is absolutely outrageous.

    The solution is very simple for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
    after installation; you need to go to the compatibility tab and choose Windows 7 or Windows 8
    when starting the software, the error appears
    so reinstall the software by choosing: repair :D
    and that's it :D

    following my previous comment, do you have a solution to recover the dashboard?

    Furthermore, upon opening the software, I receive a Windows message asking if I want to allow the software to make changes to the 'computer':

    program name: WK.exe
    Publisher: Unknown
    File origin: hard drive on this computer

    Could you please help me, as I have to click "yes" every time I open it now..

    To retrieve the dashboard:

    Open File Explorer:
    - click on 'This PC'
    - then on 'C:'
    - then on 'Program Files (x86)'
    - then on 'CIEL', then 'Compta', then 'Compléments', then 'Web', and finally on 'boards'

    There you have 4 subfolders:
    camBoard
    camMyDesk
    camMyReports
    CtaMyBoard

    In each of them, there is an html file with the same name as the folder it contains:
    camBoard.html in camBoard
    camMyDesk.html in camMyDesk
    camMyReports.html in camMyReports
    CtaMyBoard.html in CtaMyBoard

    Open each of these files one by one (with right-click + edit) and find (near the beginning) the line:

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge">

    and replace "edge" with "10" which gives:

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=10">

    Click 'File' + 'Save' then 'File' + 'Exit'

    The same operation needs to be done on each file. Restart Ciel and your dashboards should reappear!

      The sales department assured me that it was impossible to retrieve the dashboard in this version and immediately sent me a quote for a €225 update, the price of the software in direct purchase, which they claimed was the only solution to solve my problem...
      It seems not...
      Great mentality, when they're not selling overpriced support

      They are shooting themselves in the foot because word of mouth is spreading, and when all the disappointed people go looking elsewhere for better and cheaper options, they shouldn't come complaining. Anyway, I think that already, if they are behaving this way, it means that they are losing customers and that they are trying by all means to keep them, including by telling tall tales.

      I bought personal accounts software at FNAC, but the various CIEL sites do not allow me to do so - It's pathetic - Ciel only offers to buy another one, but that's about it. The indicated sites for downloading are inoperative and I’m not even mentioning the technical support, which takes time to respond and when, finally, they do answer the phone, we get individuals who speak a more than approximate French. For my part, I strongly advise against buying Ciel products; this organization wants to sell but is unable to make them work.

      I am making a few adjustments to the procedure for the Belgian version:

      To resolve the startup error message, here is the solution - confirmed by phone by the Ciel Belgium hotline

      1. Make a complete backup of the directory: C:\Ciel DATA

      This directory contains all the data of your work folder, as well as the files from previous years. It is the folder to recover in case of Ciel crash.

      2. Make a backup of the contents of C:\Programmes\Ciel Software


      3. Uninstall Ciel via the Control Panel
      In "Uninstall a program" (in category mode), right-click on "Ciel Account Premium 18.2" - Uninstall

      Note on point 3: the uninstallation normally does not delete the Ciel DATA directory - the backup in point 1 is a fallback solution in case of problems

      4. Reinstall Ciel in administrator mode, i.e. - Right-click - "Run as administrator" on the CD file "Install.exe"

      After completing these 4 points, Ciel V18.2 should work without an error message on startup under Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11. You will then find all your files

      At this stage, the dashboards are still missing - the screens remain blue or white

      To make them reappear, you need to follow Philbond's procedure

      In the Belgian version, I found only 3 files to modify instead of 4

      The files are: (C:\Program Files\Ciel Software\Ciel Account\Complements\web\boards)


      camMyDesk.html in camMyDesk
      camMyReports.html in camMyReports
      CtaMyBoard.html in CtaMyBoard

      The file "camBoard.html" in camBoard does not appear to exist in the Belgian version

      In these 3 files, you need to modify via a text editor (notepad for example)
      - edge replaced by 10

      And this in each file (i.e. 3 x) - you need to save the file under the same name

      After launching Ciel, you will find the dashboards.

      I could not verify if in version 18.3, the dashboards appeared in the same way as after the adjustments made above.

      I am available to do this work with someone who has version 18.3

      NB: I have been using Ciel Compta for many years and I am available to assist anyone in need

    Indeed, they are telling us all that we need to upgrade to the new version!
    Better yet, they are trying to sell us a maintenance contract + all the updates for over 400 euros when the software alone is worth less than 150 if I remember correctly.
    I think I'm going to switch to Oxygène (Framasoft). A free software in its basic version that is super powerful. Moreover, there is a very active forum, with specialists who come by every day to answer questions. Awesome!!!!!

    Try to do what we did (after backing up your folder).
    Uninstall the version of Ciel that no longer works on W8.1
    Reinstall it from the CD, but make sure to right-click on the .exe file on the CD /properties/compatibility
    and choose Windows 7
    OK
    and start the installation. Everything should go smoothly.
    Request an activation key by calling CIEL and explaining that we had to change computers.

    I'm not managing to do it (I changed the html files, compatibility 7 and in admin, files saved on the hard drive etc etc).. I have Independent Professional. One thing is certain. I will never buy a Ciel product again in my life! :) It's over! Thanks to ciboulette05 for the alternative tips. With the approved association, we can directly file our 2035 online so no need for third-party software anymore. I will continue to use Ciel on an old Windows 7 computer that I won't update this time while waiting to find a better product with a decent customer service.

    Hello,
    Ciel commercial management 2012 version 18.10 compatible with Windows 10 (and also 8.1)
    After the upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10, uninstall Ciel commercial management, and reinstall it in Windows 8 compatibility mode / run as administrator.
    Before any Windows migration or uninstalling Ciel, remember to back up your files.
