How to connect a Creative Inspire 5.1 5100 system to a laptop

Hello everyone,

I need your help!

I just bought a used Creative Inspire 5.1 5100 system: 5 satellite speakers (center, rear right and left, front right and left), 1 subwoofer, as well as transformer, cables, and volume control.
I connected everything: one satellite to each audio output from the subwoofer, the power of course, the volume control (the power is on, I have a little light that lights up), and I think my problem comes from the connection from my sound card to the subwoofer.

I have two possible cables: one fully black, with jack ends that are shorter, and one red and white, where each end has a double connection, a red jack plug and a white one - these are a few millimeters larger than the connectors of the black cable. Both of these cables have connectors that are not exactly PC jacks: they are supposed to snap into the machine, unlike my inputs/outputs, both on the PC and on the subwoofer: they have the typical computer audio connectors, colored green/orange/black/...

How can I get all this to work? I don't think my sound card can handle 5.1, but I just need powerful sound, not surround...

Thank you so much for any help you can provide, I really need it and my searches online have not been fruitful (not knowing much, I probably didn't search properly...).

    Hello.
    Some essential questions:
    - How many "out" jack ports do you have on your computer?
    - Does the out port work with headphones?
    - What are "tutes"?
    - Your weird cable, is it not an optical cord?

    The classic connection for 5.1 is 3 jack cables (PC) -> jack (5.1) or jack (PC) -> RCA (5.1).

    1 only, the other is an "in" for mic.
    Yes, it works with a headset.

    Good question... I don't know anything about it :/

    Yes, I would clearly be using the jack(PC) to RCA(5.1). But, what is RCA?

    In the end, I'm saying this for the future, because I returned everything to the seller; I couldn't make it work :( I think I was missing a cable to connect to my PC jack, there was nothing that fit properly.

      Anyway, getting 5.1 with a stereo output is a bit of a shame.

      You need a 5.1 sound card, either a Creative Sound Blaster type or an external card.

    If I refine my diagnosis, when I plug one of the two cables into my laptop (note: which has Dolby Home Theater v4), it indeed detects a new type of speakers, and the sound is muted. But I can't get it to transmit on even one of the speakers...

    By the way, when I plug them directly into the machine, they don't produce any sound... driver issue?

    Also, sometimes when I plug them in, they crackle to the rhythm of the audio playing on the PC... We don't understand a thing, but we can clearly feel that the crackling is related to the sound coming from the PC...
