Hello everyone.

I think I'm in the right section of the forum, so here’s my problem.

I've recently been having issues with my laptop, it crashes regularly (when it heats up a bit), which never happened before. The startup is very slow, especially when I reach the desktop; I have a major freeze of 2-3 minutes every time before I can use the mouse.

This has been happening for 4 days, and for the last 2 days, I have been getting this message at startup:

"S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, backup and replace. Press F1 for resume."

So according to my PC, the issue is with the HDD. I’ve done tests on HD Tune, but I really don’t understand much.

So I would like to know, is the issue really with the HDD? I have an Asus K53E laptop if that helps.

Thanks to anyone who is willing to take the time to help me.

Take care, thanks.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 24.0.1312.57

    Hello lionhell454,

Thank you for your response, and no, it's not due to the age of the PC as it is quite recent (8 months).

I think the HDD burned out due to excessive temperature. There were nights when I could feel it was at its limit, the fan running full blast + the PC was hot to the touch.

Anyway, it's not a big deal, I've replaced the HDD, I'm reinstalling everything and so far, so good.

    Thanks again.

      You're welcome^^
It's generally surprising that the smart bad status appears when they are too old.
Also, since it's recent, it's under warranty; if the smart fails before the warranty ends, it should normally be covered.

The message you received was the BIOS alerting you, not all PCs do this; it's designed to give you time to recover your data even though sometimes, two days later it gives up!! ....

      Happy continuing.
