Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out because I just acquired the game "Total War Rome 2" and, after a long installation, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that it doesn’t work... Let me explain: when I launch the game, everything seems fine, I have the game interface where they remind all the legal mentions, then there should be the intro credits but my screen remains black, I can hear the sound but there’s no image... When I press "escape" to skip the intro, I should land on the main menu but again I see nothing but a black screen and my cursor (along with the background music)...
Before buying it, I did check the minimum system requirements and it seemed that my machine could run the game but apparently I missed some information... Here are the specifications of my computer:
Processor: Intel(R) Cor(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @2.53GHz
RAM: 4Go
Operating System: 32-bit (Windows 7)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Display Mode: 1680x945
My question is: is it possible for me to run this game on my computer or is it not powerful enough? If it is possible, what actions should I take?
Thanks in advance!
Configuration: Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 10.0

For those who may not have understood!
The solution to this problem is:
- Type "appdata" in the start menu (it's a hidden folder! You won't find it otherwise)
If you can't find it! Look for tutorials to make hidden files appear on a computer, it will then be located in "C/Users/...(your username)/appdata"
- And when appdata is found "appdata/roaming/The Creative Assembly/Rome2/Scripts/preferences.scripts.txt"
- There you need to find the needle in the haystack ^^: change "gfx_enable_directx11 true" to "gfx_enable_directx11 false"; delete the two lines of code with directx11 after the "#"
change "gfx_fullscreen true" to "gfx_fullscreen false";
- And finally check that the game's resolution matches yours at the top left of the file! For me, it was written: 1645
945

For those who still can’t play this game!
Here is the response from SEGA support:
"Thank you for contacting SEGA Europe's customer support.
This problem is generally related to the PC itself, so we cannot provide solutions that would be the same for everyone.
In order to resolve your issue, we would need more information regarding your computer, such as the operating system, your graphics card drivers, your version of DirectX....
You can send us this information using the DirectX dxDiag tool as follows:
If you have Windows XP:
- Click on the Windows Start Menu (at the bottom left of your screen)
- Click on Run
- In the search field, enter DXDIAG
- Click OK
If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7/8:
- Click on the Windows Start Menu (at the bottom left of your screen or by pressing the Windows + R keys)
- In the search field, enter DXDIAG
- Press the Enter key
Wait for the diagnostic tool to finish gathering all the information.
Click on Save All Information.
Choose the location where you want to save it, select the .txt format, and then click Save."
As you can see... There is no one-size-fits-all solution!
So you need to do what they say and send it to this address supportclientfr@sega.co.uk
Mentioning your black screen issue.
And they will give you the personalized solution for your PC!
Problem FINALLY solved for everyone.
Have fun!

Here you go, problem solved!!! Solution found on the Steam forum and it works for me!!! I'm posting the solution because I fear many people might be in the same situation!
Managed to fix it by manually changing preferences.scripts.txt in c:/users/.../appdata/roaming/The Creative Assembly/Rome2/Scripts/
Create backup
change gfx_enable_directx11 true; to gfx_enable_directx11 false;
delete the two directx11 lines after that keeping one of the "#"
change gfx_fullscreen true; to gfx_fullscreen false;
change resolution at the top of the document if necessary.
Worked for me.

Hello, it seems that I have the same problem but I can't find the roaming folder. Does anyone have a solution?
The games installed by the providers have their installation scattered across multiple folders, it really becomes a headache to find these little things. I'm fed up... it seems that now you have to wait 2 or 3 months after each release for a game to work.

Hi
So first, you have a laptop, so your graphics card is less powerful than a 9600 on a desktop to begin with...
The Total War series demands a powerhouse, it has always been like that, so with a PC that barely runs The Sims 3, don't be surprised if it doesn't work...

The Force is like computers, its actions are unexpected.

We need to stop with these so-called games that are so heavy that a hardcore gaming PC is necessary to run them... A quick look at notebookcheck and you'll see that a simple AMD Radeon 7670M (mid-range) is enough to run it smoothly at good fps on medium settings with an acceptable resolution! I'm not very knowledgeable about computers, but according to what I've heard, this site is reliable. This is just a little rant for those who can't afford to spend thousands on a hobby...
You shouldn't listen to Djo La Force; there's no need for a war machine to play the Total War series. I play Medieval II, Napoleon, and Rome, and they all run WITHOUT ANY LAG on my old Pentium 4 3.20GHz equipped with a simple Nvidia Geforce 6600
By the way, if you're playing online, I'm fresh and available for multiplayer.

Hello everyone, as for me, I'm looking for a new graphics card to play this game, I would need some advice. Since Napoleon Total War, my poor Radeon HD5750 makes more noise than the game itself, do you have any recommendations???

Thank you
Thank you
Hello, I found a much simpler solution, now, does it work for everyone, I don't know.
During the game, when you are in the tutorial and you are asked to make Rufus enter, select the boat. It is possible to make it travel just below Rufus on the coast and to make it return to its initial point, make back and forth movements until you have exhausted its movements. At that moment, the end-of-turn hourglass is available, click on it.
Once your turn is over, you will be able to board Rufus onto the ship and Dida will continue normally :)

And titi, if you can't find appdata using my method, I suggest you do this first: http://www.bibou0007.com/t4575-tutoriel-afficher-les-fichiers-caches-sous-windows-vista-seven
You can find it by trying my method again afterwards or by searching directly in your user folder.
