Issue with medieval total war on PC recently

Hello,

Since I enjoy strategy games, I wanted to replay Medieval Total War 1, which used to run on my old PC (an Athlon 1 GHz).

However, on my new very recent PC (Athlon 64 3000, GeForce 8500 GT, 2 GB of RAM,...) it bugs. When I launch the game, the screen goes completely black and nothing happens, I have to do a ctrl+alt+delete.

I tried the software GameGain, but it doesn't help.

Can you please help me?

Thank you in advance
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.14

    Hello,

I would like to bring you the good news regarding the extremely common bug that causes the game to crash every time a player running Windows 7 starts a battle in Medieval II Total War (including the Kingdoms expansion).

First of all, I want to emphasize that I made this discovery personally, and here are the steps:

1 - First, go to the "saves" folder (which may appear to be empty) in your Medieval II directory and click on the "Compatibility Files" option at the top, which will display all your campaign save files; copy them and set them aside for now.

2 - Stay in the game directory, but this time go to the game’s launch file (.exe), right-click, and go to "Properties," then click on the "Compatibility" tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." and select one of the options from the list that includes the names of earlier versions of Windows (it is recommended to select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)").

Note: If you also have the "Kingdoms" expansion, apply the same "step 2" to the "loader" file but be careful not to select any other item from the list than the one you chose for the base game.

3 - Go back to the "saves" folder and paste your save files (which you copied, of course).

Note: Copying back the save files is necessary because once you change the compatibility mode, the old files are no longer supported, and therefore, you need to put the saved game files (.sav) back in their "saves" folder.

Launch the game, and you're all set!

    Happy gaming, everyone!
