Hello,

I have an HP laptop running Windows 8 and to access the function keys (to change the volume, brightness, etc.), I have to press the corresponding key along with the "fn" key. However, I would like to avoid having to press the "fn" key.

Could you please let me know how to do that?

Thank you in advance, have a great day/evening!

Cécile

You have no choice. It's like the '@' symbol that is located on the key with '0'; your PC cannot know which character you want to use, so you have to use key combinations like CTRL+ALT...
So your 'Volume Up' key is located on the F10 key (for example), and your PC cannot know if when you click it you want F10 or to raise the volume, so you have to press the FN key.
I hope I've been clear.
In short, it's IMPOSSIBLE.

Oh okay, thanks. But I've seen two of my friends with a laptop who don't need to press on it...

Because the key has only one combination, it is only useful for one thing.

Hello, I'm responding late to the topic but I just had the same issue and to be able to adjust the volume or brightness etc. without having to press FN you need to restart your computer by pressing F10 then go to system settings and enable the function key.
