Since yesterday, my network card keeps disabling regularly. I'm connected to Wi-Fi, but after some time (an hour or more), I get disconnected and no longer have access to any wireless networks (a red cross appears), and the only way to regain internet access is to restart my PC. At first, I thought it was my box, but rebooting it doesn't change anything.
I noticed 2 processes called dllhost.exe (while checking "show processes from all users") and I read that it is a security process of the Microsoft Windows system, called "COM Surrogate," and that it is not dangerous by itself but that "malware writers, such as viruses, worms, and trojans, have deliberately given these processes the same file name to evade detection."
So I’m thinking that the issue might come from that; not really knowing what to do, I prefer to wait for your advice.
Thank you!

Have you simply thought about going into your Device Manager?
You double-click on your wireless network card
You click on the last tab: "Power Management"
and you uncheck the box: "Allow the PC to turn off this device to save power"...
By the way, that's why many were wondering why the Wi-Fi wouldn't work when connecting or disconnecting the battery!
There you go... the little rascal!! hahahahahaha

Summary for better readability:
Before Formatting
Encountered Issues:
- Loss of connection to the wireless network "no networks available" (living in an apartment, I always see 20 networks displayed when it works).
- Must restart to reconnect
- Disconnections can occur after 15 minutes or after several hours
- PC often becomes slow after a disconnection and sometimes freezes
- blue screen "IRQL Driver not less or equal"
Actions Taken:
- Full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: no issues detected
- OTL scan (not analyzed): http://cjoint.com/?CGFn7KRBbxR
- Boot scan with Avast and full scan afterwards: Nothing to report
Remarks:
- issue occurred overnight (3 years without any problems)
- no loss of connection in safe mode with networking
After Formatting
Encountered Issues:
- Loss of wireless network connection
- Must restart to reconnect
- Disconnections can occur after 15 minutes or after several hours
- Sometimes slowdowns and freezes once disconnected
Actions Taken:
- Detected a driver conflict with the software "My Drivers": Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Unknown Device) which caused an error in "system32/drivers/pci.sys"
- Updated the driver from the site touslesdrivers.com: no apparent conflicts
- Windows memory test: no issues detected
Remarks:
- Sometimes freezes after startup once on the desktop
- no loss of connection in safe mode with networking
Here’s hoping that by making my problem more readable, someone can tell me what actions I can still take because I'm lost... any help is welcome
Thank you -
Good evening, soldier ;)
I finally managed to find the problem. In fact, you were on the right track when you told me to check my drivers to see if they were up to date. The problem is that according to Windows, they were up to date and no conflicts were displayed.
Not knowing what to do anymore, I formatted my PC, everything was working fine until I did a Windows Update and the problem returned: disconnection from WiFi and no WiFi networks showing up.
Of course, very disappointed at that moment thinking that I had spent hours reinstalling everything only to end up with the same result.. Not really believing it, I searched for driver detection software and I came across "my drivers". From there, it showed me a problem with a driver for an Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Unknown Device) which caused a conflict in "system32/drivers/pci.sys"
According to Windows, this driver was functional and up to date, so I couldn't detect this issue. The same goes for the software ma-config.com that didn't find anything abnormal.
I then went to the website touslesdrivers.com and I was able to resolve the issue by downloading this troublesome driver!
In short, I will need to wait 2 days to be sure that my PC is "healed" because the loss of WiFi connection can occur after 5 minutes or 10 hours. I will check back to confirm or not.
Anyway, I recommend the software "my drivers" which managed to detect this.

I think it's moving forward, I went to:
Control Panel > Troubleshooting
- Fix problems that are preventing me from installing updates
- System and Security
- Fix problems with Windows Update
After searching, it showed me 3 errors (1 has been restored)
- Windows Update error 0x80070057 (2013-08-02-T-01_35_07)
- Cryptographic service components are not registered
- Problems installing recent updates > Fixed
Thanks to that I was able to install 2 important updates that had failed:
- Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based computers (KB976932)
- Security update for Windows 7 for x64-based computers (KB2620704)
and this allows me to access other important updates.
I will come back to post once all the updates are installed to let you know if the problem is resolved ;) -
First of all, thank you for the feedback.
Personally, I am convinced that it comes from a driver or perhaps an incompatible update.
But after that, how to precisely identify the problem... I don't know.-
Yes, I find it unfortunate that some don’t give feedback even though it could help others in the same situation.
I forgot to mention that since I don’t have a Windows 7 CD, I downloaded the Windows 7 .iso from the official site to reinstall, and it seemed to have no problems until I installed the 140 updates from Windows Update, and then it came back. I think the same as you, but finding out which update causes everything to crash is indeed complicated.
Right now, I often have to restart my PC to apply new updates, so we’ll see; maybe it will return to normal at some point.
I will come back to say if I’m still at the same point or if it’s resolved.
In any case, thanks again for trying to help me, otherwise I would feel quite alone, lol.
See you later, have a good day.

I hadn't thought about using Windows repair utilities =x
But if it's an update that's causing the bug, they will surely patch it. -
Is there no one qualified to respond to this problem?
-
Up
Anyone to suggest a solution? It just happened to me again. -
Up
I just had a blue screen "Driver IRQL Not less or equal"
still no one to help me? :( -
Hi, personally, I also have intermittent connection losses with Wi-Fi due to a "network modification" even though I haven't touched the settings... The solution is to restart the network card or reboot the box, and even then it only works temporarily.
Madinho94, I had this problem when I installed Avast, around February.
This error was due to a compatibility issue, so try to check if you have 2 active antivirus programs or other things like that. -
-
Hi soldier, I don't understand why this is happening to me all of a sudden. I've never had a problem before; I've had this computer for 3 years. I haven't installed a new antivirus; I've always been on Avast. I think I caught a malware that's causing chaos in the drivers...
Thanks for your message! -
Well, I'm not an expert, but I'll try to help you ^^
Have you installed something recently? -
As far as I remember, nothing in particular that could conflict with the network card. I just updated Adobe Flash Player, but I just had a freeze followed by a blue screen; I feel like it's getting worse and worse. I'm running a full scan with Malwarebytes, and I think it will take about 2 hours. I’ll be heading to bed, so I'll give you an update tomorrow. Thanks for your help anyway! Have a good evening.

In case you do, would you be able to perform a system restore?
-
Yes, I still have some points left even though I deleted quite a few not long ago. It's strange, on July 28th at 7 PM, I had a system update and a critical Windows Update, and that's exactly when the problems started. Otherwise, I can restore to July 1st, 2012. Do you advise me to do that?
-
Technically, if we perform a system restore before the issue, it should restore the Windows settings and remove those updates. So restore the system before the problem occurred.
Try to find out about this critical update to see what it does.
Also, check if your drivers are up to date. -
Hi there ;)
I tried to perform a system restore before the Windows Update, but the same problem persists: my network card keeps disconnecting, then I get a blue screen saying "Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal."
Unfortunately, less than a week ago, I wanted to free up space on my PC and I deleted all the restore points except for a backup from July 1, 2012, but it is not functional; it's impossible to restore to that date.
I don't understand; I didn't update any drivers before this problem. I've looked for an update for my network card drivers, but Windows tells me they are up to date (I also downloaded the software from ma-config.com to check). I ran Malwarebytes, and it didn't find any malware. I also ran an OTL scan, but I can't analyze it.
Anyway, I'm currently stuck; I don't know what to do.
Thank you very much for your help ;) -
Here is my OTL analysis if someone can analyze it
http://cjoint.com/?CGFn7KRBbxR
Thank you! -
You're welcome, I'm trying to do what I can.
But from now on, I can't help you anymore, I don't know how to analyze the Scan OTL, try asking someone who could help you better than I can. :/
But as I told you, the Driver IRQL Not less or equal error may be due to a compatibility issue with Avast, so try uninstalling Avast and see if the blue screen still appears.
