Hello, good evening, I have an old VCR: a Philips VR110, I reused my old remote control and did some tests to reacquaint myself with it. There was a VHS in my VCR (of very good quality despite its age: 1992). I didn’t know what the index button was, I pressed it and since then my VHS has a mediocre quality, completely unreadable, and it’s the same for all my VHS tapes. I’ve tried using the P+, P- buttons to restore the quality but it doesn’t work... please help me...

Alright, well I'm testing your first solution here, if it doesn't work I'll clean the heads or at worst, get a new VCR since it's pretty old but you never know. In my opinion, I must have messed something up in the VCR that's causing it not to read the tape properly.

And otherwise, I have two other questions: how long does it take to reset a VCR and to reset it (besides the tape issue) do you need to unplug the power cord and the scart cables (av/ext 1)??

I don't think so, there's no reset button on this kind of device.

Furthermore, I want to clarify that these were VHS tapes that I had purchased commercially, and everything was working until I pressed that index button and my VCR can no longer read the tapes properly (the image is distorted and illegible). I don't know if it's my VHS tapes that are ruined, my VCR, or both, and if it's the VCR, is it repairable?

the index does not change the quality of the image
at the back of your VCR, there is a SCART socket (AV1) (the one at the bottom), so just connect it to your TV
on your TV, select the correct channel in A/V or AUX
and start playing the video tape using the play button (either the one on the front of the VCR or the one on the remote control)

Okay, thanks for the advice, but I want to clarify that the connection was the same as before, the quality was fine, and it's since I pressed index that the quality has deteriorated. The connection was the same before the problem occurred: in fact, it’s the VHS image (magnetic, I don’t know how to explain it, with these colored glitches creating a kind of snow effect with an unstable image that makes viewing unreadable).

I just tried your advice: it's still the same thing: the glitches. I should specify that before the problem, my VHS tapes were of very good quality (sold in stores). This happened today, since I pressed index and the VCR doesn't seem to be able to read the tapes anymore (it happens to all VHS tapes; I had just tested them to see if it was the tape I had ruined, but no, it seems to be the VCR). I don't know what to do or if it can be fixed...

There are cleaning tapes specifically for that; otherwise, we’ll have to open the device...

Heads are usually not misaligned, just need to be cleaned.
