Hello, I'm connecting with my phone to an open Wi-Fi network in my housing complex and I’d like to know if the owner of the Wi-Fi, who is a IT professional, can see the sites I visit and my downloads.

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 21.0

Good evening,

Indeed, it is possible to see which sites have been visited, even if you are browsing in private mode.

EDIT:
  • If you visit pages over HTTP (unsecured), all data exchanges are accessible to the WiFi network owner (and their Internet service provider), including the content of the pages or the data entered in forms (usernames, passwords, etc.)
  • If you visit pages over HTTPS (secured with SSL), only the domain name of the visited site will be accessible, so they will be able to see that you are visiting Facebook, but not the pages viewed or the content of the discussions.
