big problem with Windows Movie Maker Solved

Question

Wanting to create a personal video with Windows Movie Maker, I record my video from my DV camcorder. Everything goes smoothly, I make a small edit, add effects, transitions, and music. I save the project and can play it with Windows Movie Maker.
So I decide to burn it to DVD with WINDOWS DVD CREATION, at that moment Windows Movie Maker announces that it will close in order to launch WINDOWS DVD CREATION.
The project loads into WINDOWS DVD CREATION and it is at this point that everything becomes complicated, WINDOWS DVD CREATION has encountered a problem and must close. After several attempts with the same result, I reopen Windows Movie Maker and my project and decide to save it on my PC in AVI format and there, the same problem, Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and must close.
Do you have a solution to my problem?
Is it a software bug?

Hello,

It must be coming from the firewall that needs adjustment,
you have to "tell" the firewall to let this application through.
But not all firewalls are the same, so
the settings aren't either!
You can also run your antivirus and check for
possible spywares.

I have exactly the same problem as you.. When Windows DVD Maker starts encoding, it crashes at 0.7% with no indication..

I tried using Sonic's MyDVD, and it works. It's really a Windows problem!!

Hello,
I also had a problem with Windows Movie Maker on Vista: I couldn't publish videos even after installing the codecs.
So, I uninstalled SLD Codecs and DivX Codecs and now I can publish videos without any issues!
Some say this problem can also arise from an incompatibility between Windows Movie Maker and an old version of Nero.

I had started a little editing project with music and video, I saved it, and turned off the computer to take a break. However, when I wanted to resume my editing, each effect applied to my miniclips (fade, fade out+, slow down by half...) had turned into a black screen. Every time an effect was played, my screen remained black and returned to normal when no effect was present on the timeline...
In short, I already struggle with computers, and now I think I'll never make it in the world of cinema and special effects.

Movie Maker is indeed very unstable and has limited anticipation.
You must handle it with care and prepare the work with minimal interventions.
I have also experienced quite a few setbacks at the beginning which I resolved using these methods.
However, it seems, from reading these forums, that configuration issues arise in some cases and I cannot help you with that:
I will therefore limit myself to repeating what I have already written on these forums:
Photos:
Movie Maker resizes them to 640 x 480 in all cases. It is therefore preferable to prepare the collections in this format before integrating them. This apparently avoids storing the manipulation in memory.
Inserting photos, music, clips
Manipulate with caution. Do not anticipate commands, that is to say, wait for the image of the requested work to reappear in the main viewer before proceeding with the next command.
Collection management
Do not change the position of items in folders.
However, items can be modified while remaining in place, Movie will take the modifications into account (even if it doesn’t change its display!).
Inserting transitions
Same remark as for photo insertions: one by one, no copy-paste.
Inserting text
If you use it, be careful. Always close the task before changing the image. Insertion or modification of text must be completed before changing the image, otherwise, it’s guaranteed to crash.
Sequence dimensions:
Try not to exceed 15 to 20 minutes of sequence before creating the corresponding video on the computer, as long sequences overload the memory and make it crash. Especially do this if you notice that your project starts to lag.
You can always, afterward, splice them one after the other into a final project. Once the videos are created, the transfer memory is much less taxed.
Finally, I can only advise you to read everything that is written on the subject in these forums, as I do not possess all knowledge. To find a large part of these discussions, you can search for my messages ("Vaucluse"), where you will find quite a few insightful comments from other users.
To conclude, do not expect wonders with Movie, but for a beginner, it is more than acceptable if you take the patience to handle it as I recommend!

I created a photo-video montage with transitions and accompanying music on Windows Movie Maker, and everything was fine until I tried to publish it onto a CD-R. It tells me there's not enough space on the CD to burn even though the film lasts only 14 minutes, which is 2.4 MB on a CD-R with 700 MB capacity. How can I solve this problem? Also, what format should I use to publish it correctly so that it can be played on a standalone DVD player? When I tried with 4 photos, the CD-R couldn't be read in the DVD player.

Hello,  I managed with a 1h59 movie.  I'm on Vista.  I searched for over a month and thanks to the Microsoft technician and my attempts, we succeeded.  I split my movie into 4 parts, then I published the 4 parts, regrouped them, and republished them once again<;   Be careful if you don't have a hard drive of at least 300 G; it's not worth trying.

I created a project with Windows Maker that I decided to publish on DVD.

The editing is sent to the Windows DVD maker program...

After modifying the menu, etc... I started the burning process... and encountered an error message at the beginning of the encoding!

"Unspecified error" Unable to burn the DVD.

I JUST REMOVED THE "FADE IN / FADE OUT" EFFECTS FROM MY PHOTOS IN THE EDITING... I NO LONGER HAVE ANY PROBLEMS!

Test this if you encounter this error message, which is also found when trying to save the video project on the computer.

So it's not necessarily related to the size of the video editing.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION for Creating a DVD on Windows Vista.  However, it does indeed exist at the indicated location: C:Windowssystem32iac25_32.ax Creation date: 2/11/2006 193 KB  And it has the usual rights of a system file.  I conclude that this file is legitimate, but is not usually installed as an "active" codec.  You should start by trying a "simple": regsvr32 /u iac25_32.ax from a command window launched in administrator mode.  This command, if it works successfully, should deregister the file iac25_32.ax.

Hello,  WMM plus Gravure with Windows DVD Creator was working fine (well, with a few crashes anyway), and then today, "it doesn't work" ... Annoying Windows ...  => searching for solutions = Difficult, and not much...  However, Microsoft error report, plus Cr1m3's message (Thanks, but not very clear if you don't know the error report) provide 1 solution that works;  You will find below the copy-paste of the Microsoft error report - in English - The copy-paste is not very pleasant to read, (sorry...)  Upon reading Cr1m3 just above, who says it's THE solution, I therefore uninstalled iac25_32.ax (an Intel codec, if I understood correctly), which corresponds to the 4th solution from Microsoft.  I will highlight it in capital letters, bold, italicized, underlined; otherwise see Cr1m3 above.  As I write these lines, IT WORKS, the burning is in progress... The error report says that it may have impacts on other software... We'll see...   I quote: "Follow these steps to troubleshoot problems with Indeo® audio software  This problem was caused by Indeo® audio software, which was created by Intel Corporation.  Indeo® audio software is a codec. A codec is software that is used to compress or decompress a digital media file, such as a song or video. Media players and other programs use codecs to play and create digital media files.  Troubleshooting  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------  1ST SOLUTION  To try to solve this problem, follow these steps. Each of the steps might solve your problem. If following a step doesn't fix your problem, then go on to the next step. Just a clarification: my problem was not with WMM per se but with WINDOWS DVD CREATION which crashed, not on opening or selecting a file, but during burning. Whether it was a WMM project or, after checking, any video file. solution in 99 cr1m3 is in 96 jicé

I also have a problem. On Windows XP Home, I created a video that's about 20 minutes long, with music, subtitles, special effects... and all that jazz. When I try to save it to my computer so I can later upload it to a skyblog or a DVD, it says that the remaining time is 11,025 minutes, which decreases to 80 minutes, and then it goes back up again. I tried letting it convert all night, but nothing happened; in the evening, it was down to 8 minutes, and the next day it was back up to 505 minutes! What should I do?

Hi  I think I have the solution to the various crashes of Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Creation,  The problem does not come from Windows itself but from the codec being used. Windows by default recommends the "DivX etc player" codec, which generally causes the software to crash for sure,  To fix this, uninstall this codec and reinstall another one (e.g., ffdshow, Google is your friend to find it) and voilà, the software no longer crashes during video conversion by encoding or burning.  I hope this helps you. ;) (It worked for me)

I've been using Windows Movie Maker for quite some time, both on my XP computer and on the new Vista one. In both cases, I think it's best not to exceed a ten-minute edit, maybe 15 max, otherwise the computer can't save it. To avoid redoing everything, just use copy and paste. One issue on Vista that I didn't have before: during the creation of the edit, the second piece of music doesn't align properly if I don't play it from the beginning. It's a hassle to fine-tune the positioning of the photos in line with the music. More annoying, which I also experienced on XP: like some others, I get a black screen if there was an effect on the photo. I have to remove the effect and add it again to rework it. Even more annoying: I saved an edit two days ago without any issues. However, the next day when I viewed the result, two videos were black. So, I reopened the installation which hadn't changed since then: the black screens of the images with effects and impossible to save because of missing files or lack of space. I just changed the virtual memory settings as someone suggested above. I'll see if that's enough. But why did two videos not go through?

I have finished editing the film, now all I have left is to publish it, but when I do, and I save it as .avi, it transfers to my computer but when I play it, there’s no image. I only get sound. I don’t understand because I can play .avi files on my computer. I also have an Iomega ScreenPlay HD multimedia hard drive and I can’t read it there either. Hello everyone, after spending my afternoon surfing the web until now it's 1:40 AM... I finally managed to publish my damn video ^^.  So first, WMM crashes at any moment (DOES NOT RESPOND) the only solution is to reinstall, close all other applications, only use AVI videos and finally no more crashing (I was on the verge of system restore).   And finally the publishing problem, it's true, it doesn't seem like WMM 6 is compatible with Vista... yet it was designed for it unfortunately...   As some have said before, there are certain things to avoid for the success of this damn publication:   --> the mute option is to be banned!!!!!  --> personally, the fade in/out option works very well for me (not for everyone apparently).  --> limit the video to 15 minutes (many people have said it, but I haven't checked ^^)  --> uninstall Nero (don't ask me why, it just is...)  --> check that all your photos and videos haven't moved or changed names and the like (that would be quite annoying...)  --> update your codecs   and finally pray ^^ well good luck everyone, now I'm going to start on VirtualDub I think ^^

Hello, In reading all the messages, I realize that for two years, the same problems have been encountered with Movie Maker with no solution to date; for me, after editing and adding sound to a 45-minute film, I am unable to burn it, as the encoding stops at 26%. Memory cleaning and trying to transfer to internal memory were unsuccessful. It's impossible to transfer it to the new MM, as the format no longer matches. Does a Vista and WMM user have a solution?

Same problem as you! I think I have THE solution. I really tried everything, until it finally WORKED (after a long agony).  I made a photo, video, music montage.  No way to publish it (I thought I was going to die). I changed to the PAL option, uninstalled the filters (all of them) and published in D-AVI, I also removed all the effects (but not the transitions), and took off the "mute" option on the video (a completely ban-worthy option); since I only use the music (not the video sound), I simply turned down the volume almost to the minimum. There it worked for publishing, but all my videos were black, just a black screen. (I thought I was going to die again).  I searched the web and here’s what I found as the FINAL solution: The codecs. I don't know what a codec is, but I know it's related to video playback, to the image, etc. You need to download the K-Lite Codec Pack. If you have other codecs on your computers (they are often the source of the problem), when you install the program, it offers to uninstall the codecs (for me it was DVIX or something like that). Uninstall them.  Then, I republished my film with the same settings, AND IT WORKS. THE VIDEOS APPEAR NORMALLY. And the quality isn’t THAT BAD.  But I say like everyone else: Windows Movie Maker wants our death, next time, don’t use it, it’s just a hair-pulling experience, especially at the end, after all the time spent on editing, and it’s a huge waste of time.
