The proxy server is not responding. Solved/Closed

Question

Hello, I hope I haven't mistaken the forum. Here is my problem. When I start my laptop, I cannot access the internet for the reason "The proxy server is not responding." To obtain an internet connection, I need to uncheck the use of a proxy server by doing the following: Internet Tools/options/connections/network settings/remove the check from proxy server and ok. BUT, the problem reappears when I power on my laptop again. I have deleted the "Proxy Address to use" HTTP and Secure 127.0.0.1 and "Port" 8877 BUT this information comes back every time I boot up. In REGEDIT, 127.0.0.1 appears 15 times and I am wondering about deleting this data in REGEDIT. What should be done? Thank you in advance for your proposed solution.

Hello!   "127.0.0.1" is the address of your "localhost"! Go to "Internet Options/Connections/Network Settings/" Have you clicked "Apply then OK" after your changes?  If so: check "Automatically detect connection settings" > OK > Apply > OK   "I am one of the most powerful sorcerers in living memory."

Thank you for handling this issue, and I just realized that the Apply button is inaccessible. Indeed, I have already done several times what you indicate in "Internet Options/Connections/Network settings/" I checked "Automatically detect settings" > Ok and > OK  BUT in response to your question: Did you click "Apply" then "OK" after your modifications? I just noticed that I could only click OK because the Apply button is grayed out and inaccessible.  This may be the reason for losing changes once the computer is turned off. See you soon.

I had Mozilla Firefox, but since the problem was the same with Firefox, I uninstalled it before asking for help on CCM. It's worth mentioning that the same problem exists with Maxthon. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards.

Good evening, I had the same problem (maybe not the same port 8877). It's probably due to a virus. I fixed it by running antivirus, probably Microsoft Security Essentials and/or by updating the web browsers.

Good evening nicososinfo, Thank you for the suggestion regarding a virus. I had also thought of a virus, but Karpersky 2013 did not detect anything during a full scan a few hours before I posted my help request on CCM. Malwarebytes also found nothing during a full scan after Karpesky 2013. It’s worth noting that the computer takes a long time to respond at startup after being turned off, which I attributed to Karpesky. The version of Internet Explorer is 10. I installed Firefox and, after a reboot, I no longer had any proxy connection errors in both Firefox, IE, and Maxthon. Since then, things have deteriorated, and IE & Maxthon can no longer find the proxy, and the network settings have reverted to what they were before. However, Firefox is operational. To reinstall Maxthon, I only had internet access through Firefox, but for the installation of Maxthon which connects to the internet, I had to redo: Internet Tools / Options / Connections / Network Settings / removal of the checkmark in the proxy server and ok.  No improvement for Maxthon after reinstallation; nor with IE.  No positive result with 80 instead of 8877 in HTTP.

Good evening,  I had the same problem and I just solved it.  I simply had a trojan and 3 malwares on my computer. I should mention that my antivirus Kaspersky, nor AdCleaner and anti-malware, detected them; it was thanks to Spybot that I was able to get rid of them, so thank you to Spybot.  You download Spybot, update it, then run a scan and you'll see what you have on your computer.  Have a good evening.

Hi,  Well, the report is okay.  As for the software, I can't verify with ZHPDiag; I can only do it with a MiniToolBox scan, but it's not complicated, so I trust you, no need to redo it.  Final scan, then we clean up and finish  Download Dr.Web CureIt  http://download.geo.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/1367852712.695/8k771tzh.exe  -> Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe and click Yes.  -> Accept the agreement by checking the box "I agree to participate in the program [...]" and click "Continue". -> Click on Select objects for analysis, then check the box "Scan objects". -> Click on "Click to select files and folders", then check "My Computer". -> Click on "Start the scan", then wait for the scan to complete.  -> When the scan is finished, make sure all items are checked, then click on "Neutralize". Wait for the software to neutralize the detected threats.  -> Close Dr.Web CureIt!, and agree to restart your computer: this is very important, some files may be moved/fixed upon restart. -> Then go to the forums-fec site and host the cureit.log report. In "Registry", click on "Scan for Issues" then "Fix all selected Issues"  3.
