Unable to print photos

Solved

Hello,

In my company, we have users who take a lot of photos and in the evening, they download them to the computer and then print them (simply by right-clicking print and choosing the 10x15 format). When they take the printed pages from the printer, they see a strip corresponding to a piece of the photo but never the entire photo.
I suggested putting the images in a Word file and then printing (that works) but the boss doesn’t want to and wants me to make the old system work again...
Have you ever encountered this problem?

Thank you

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 25.0.1364.172

Hi,

does this happen on all PCs? What are the OS of the PCs in question?
Have you tried reinstalling the driver with the latest version found on the printer manufacturer's website?

See you later!

Hello,

All the computers in our IT park are running Windows 7 64bit. I haven't reinstalled the driver because we use several Xerox copiers with a Follow Me printing system, meaning that each user prints to the printer they want (by swiping their badge at the desired printer).

Thank you

I wasn't familiar with this system, but it seems pretty good. However, I'll still try to reinstall the driver on at least one workstation to make sure that's not where the issue lies. I'll also try to install the Post Script driver if it hasn't been done and if the feature isn't paid (as it is in some cases).

See you!

I can try to reinstall the driver, but normally there shouldn't be any issues since I have a VLAN as a print server with the driver installed on it and broadcasted over the network. What surprises me is that everything was updated in February and until a few days ago, everything was working.
I don't know what Post Script is; what is it?

PostScript (PS) is a more advanced driver than PCL that is generally installed for CAD printing, Design/Graphics, etc. I thought that with photos to print, it might be a good idea.
I think it's worth a try.

So what's really strange is that if I copy the photos to the hard drive (the agents were printing while leaving the photos on the camera) and I print in a 9 per page format, everything works...

And full page, does it work too?
Previously, the agents printed from the device and it worked?

A full-page photo seems to work apparently, it looks like it's mainly the 10*15 format but I'm not sure.
I'm sorry but I'm quite confused, nothing has changed, before the agents printed either via the device connected to the PC or via the PC alone and everything worked.
I tried on different printers but always the same problem.
Again this morning I was told that they want to print a "thumbnail" with 4 photos on the page and that it's not working... I'm lost.

Thank you for the help.

When your agents print, can they modify the printer options?
If so, tell them to try changing the print setting to 10x15 directly in the printer driver. Also check the default settings of your printers on your VLAN server to see if anything is causing issues.

See you!

My default settings are black/white, double-sided, and no scaling (I've seen on some forums that this can cause problems).
Agents can modify the printer properties.
Well, I'm really useless in this area, I just tried to set the format to 10*15 in the printer properties, but that format apparently doesn't exist...

Well, I think A5 is 10x15.

Is it A5? Normally, when they print in 10x15 format, it's to put two photos on an A4.

Oh okay, if I were you, I would try installing a PS driver on the print server to run a test.

I wonder if that's what I'm going to do because I'm stuck and the Xerox technician tells me he has never encountered this problem.
What bothers me the most is that it has always worked and we've never had a PS driver.
Thank you.

Yes, it's weird; sometimes this kind of inconvenience happens, we learn something new every day in this job.
Before installing the driver, restart your print server to see... but I guess you've already tried that.

I must admit that to be completely honest, I haven't restarted my VLAN, which is my print server.
Do you think that might help?

Yes, that can help. You know, I've seen some really strange things sometimes, and the simple act of restarting the machine, the server, the router, the switch, etc. was enough to fix a problem that just came up like that.
In fact, it's almost always the first thing I do when I intervene.

Unfortunately, I can't restart it whenever I want because users are constantly using it. I'll try to find a time slot to do that.
I'll come back to provide updates, but in my opinion, it will be next week.
Have a great day and a happy Easter! :)

Yes, I understand we can't do whatever we want with a production server. Okay, we'll wait for your news then.
Happy Easter to you too.

Hello Tchao57,

So apparently restarting the print server makes it work again, I did several small tests and everything was working. I asked the service that had issues to do some more tests and to contact me, and I haven't heard back, so I assume it's OK.
See, IT isn't always logical lol

Thank you very much for your help.
