Hello,
I have a big problem since yesterday, I can't access my admin session.
When I turn on my computer, I get to the place where I can choose a session, so I click on mine and then type my password. Then the gray apple appears along with the loading logo, and it freezes. I waited for more than an hour, but it didn't work.
So, I tried absolutely all the manipulations I found on the forum, without result...
I used the disk utility (with the CD provided by Apple) to try to repair the 'Macintosh HD' but I couldn't click on the Verify and Repair buttons;
I used FSCK in Single User mode, the first time it displayed '***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****' and then (when I did it again) 'The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK';
I reset the NVRAM with Cmd + Alt + P + R at startup;
I used the Apple Hardware Test which found nothing;
I used verbose mode and found that it talked a lot about Spotlight.
The last time I turned on my computer, Spotlight did some indexing. I don't know if that could be the cause.
My computer is Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 mid-2010.
It had Snow Leopard when I bought it.
I also want to add that I only have one session and right now I have access to the internet through the guest session.
That's it, hoping for a response x)
Configuration: Mac OS X Lion (10.7.2) / Safari 5.1.1

Hello,
I had the same problem. My Mac was stuck at the login screen and I only had one user account (other) and no password worked.
I managed to get past it... but I didn't carefully note down the steps, so I'm giving you the gist of it...
Here’s my solution:
You insert the OS X installation CD and restart from it (hold down the option key during startup... before the Mac's chime).
After choosing the language, you do not proceed with the OS installation, but instead look for something in the top menus. There should be something to reset passwords (reset keychains or something like that).
