Hello,
Always in search of the best quality with codec Xvid 1.3.2, I am asking you for information, details, and solutions for configuring this codec.
I would like, with your precious help, to review all the options of the Xvid 1.3.2 codec if you don't mind.
For example:
What should I set for Profile? Home? AS@L5? What are the differences?
What should I set for Adaptive Quantization? What is it?
Etc.
I really want to do this to increase my knowledge, and it could also be beneficial for potential readers and for you who are helping me!
I am eagerly awaiting your recommendations or suggestions ^^
Thank you very much
Configuration: Windows 7 Starter

Hello,
If you mention the Advanced Simple@L5 profile, it's because you've already done some research; you wouldn't just bring it up randomly, would you?
A little link about the different XviD profiles, for example, which is a bit clearer in my opinion than the very good link provided by gej62: http://alex64.free.fr/Fonds_de_tiroir/xvid/Tout_sur_le_XVID_ou_presque.pdf
Best regards
PS: I feel like all the topics you open are about the same subject, so I would suggest you try some experiments and find what works for you. My way of doing things is not the same as gej62's, for example, since our expectations are different, and tartampion will do it differently too ;)

You know, uh, before learning to play the guitar, you have to learn music theory, etc.
The Xvid codec is a lossy codec, so to compensate for this loss, you need to work with Avisynth and set your Xvid to 50 or even 60 fps per second, and that's relatively technical.
Some software like XMedia Recode includes profiles based on devices (PSP, PS3, etc.).
Others, Xvid4PSP5, are based on a volume, meaning an optimized profile for 700 MB, 1.4 GB, for example.
To get the best out of the codec, you shouldn't just rely on the presets but also add some post-processing filters.
Cheers!

and Tartampion will do it differently again ;)
here's a good summary, everyone has their own way of doing things according to their expectations.
m4ng is a good log too, the forum is full of information.

just because Ziggourat does it differently doesn't mean he does it badly. the reverse is also true. it's up to you to find your method.
you can find profiles based on quality for example
Xvid 2P1.08 Gb ultra, or extreme.cartoon, Test, HQ, fast, turbo, balanced, etc.
with bitrate choice, or quantizer. or with a predefined bitrate, etc. there's no shortage of options.
not bad your Ziggourat link either :-) clearer indeed

Thank you for your responses!
Indeed, it's been a while that I've been scouring the internet pages looking for tips or improvements for the Xvid codec! I actually read your two links the day before yesterday ^^
Is the codec for the quality you mentioned available?
I'll look it up!
Thank you

Under xvid4psp5, you have about thirty profiles based on quality.
I’m giving you a link for encoding in 60 fps. On it, you’ll find
2 videos to show you the difference. Don’t try, it’s with Megui.
Finally, you can read it to get an idea.

Hi!
Hi,
Thanks for your link!
But I still have plenty of questions:
- I configured the 1st pass and then the 2nd pass, but when I start the encoding, it tells me that it can't find the stats file! I understand that, so I set it to 1st pass and put it on hold, then I set it to 2nd pass and queued it as well, but I get the same message!
Why??
I think I found it: I configured the 1st pass and launched it directly, then I will configure the 2nd and launch it! It should find the stats file created in the first pass, right?
- Is MeGui a good software in terms of advanced options and the time/quality ratio (I hope you know what I mean^^)?
I'm waiting for your answers :)
Thanks to you

Ah, you want to try Megui ...
Is your source from a DVD?
Did you choose the "one click encoder" mode or do you want to try it step by step?
You can also choose "automated 2 passes"; you will see your 2 passes waiting under "queue" after selecting your profile (let me know which one). Use the bitrate calculator.
Give me your source and your profile.
Under "encoder settings," click on "config" to access the codec settings.
"Time/quality ratio" depends on your PC, the number of passes, and the codec settings; the resolution also plays a role.
Megui is a good software, just like xvid4psp5 or staxrip; there are also others.
Cheers.

Megui is a good soft, I use the divx hd profile for my mp4s. Megui does not open iso
you need to first use a virtual drive like daemontools or dvdfabvirtual drive to extract the content. For DVDs, you need to remove the protections first.
for DVDs Megui will use dgindex to demux the video and audio in the form of an m2v for the video and ac3 for the audio. It will also create a d2v file that will be used for the creation of the avisynth script.
this script once created can be used for other softs, xvid4psp5, xmedia recode, finally all the softs that can open this kind of script. Your black bars will be removed, you'll be able to choose
a resizing filter, etc.
so "one click encoder" is good but going through "file indexer" is better.
there you go.

Once you create your script, Megui automatically removes the black bars.
If you change your resolution, it automatically recalculates your resolution. If your video is interlaced, you perform an analysis pass and determine the best filter.
You configure the bitrate calculator by filling in the fields, and then it automatically integrates the bitrate, etc., etc., etc.
To conclude, there is no miracle; it’s a lossy codec whether used with another software, it remains a lossy codec.
