Unknown processes in Activity Monitor

Hello,

My MacBook Pro has been lagging for a while now. I wanted to check the Activity Monitor, and something strange is indeed happening: unknown processes are appearing and disappearing almost every second.
I'm giving you some names randomly, if that rings a bell: syslog, ntpd, notifyd, mds, kernel_task (this one is always present but its activity percentage varies), fseventsd, hidd, CVMServer, WindowServer, mdworker, mDNSResponder, coreaudiod, ...

Do you know what they correspond to? Why do they not come from the user "leti" (me, the admin) but from "root" or other users like "_windowserver", "_coreaudiod", ...? And most importantly, how can I get rid of them?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Laëtitia

    Good evening,

I'm not an expert in the inner workings of processes, but at first glance, everything you mentioned seems normal...

"Root" is, roughly speaking, the main user of your Mac without whom you can't do anything. In fact, you can even access/take its place, but it's highly discouraged if you're not an expert.

The "kernel" is the central piece of macOS. It's better that it runs and runs well. Pray to Heaven or whoever you want not to experience Kernel panics!

So, in summary, all of this represents the multitude of things working in the background for the proper functioning of your machine; you definitely shouldn't mess with it ;-)

    Hello,

The activity monitor displays all activities, not just those of open software, but also system functions and background applications.
