Hello,
my PS3 does not detect my 500GB external hard drive despite formatting it to FAT32.
The light turns on when I connect it, and I can hear it starting up, but that's it.
Is there a solution? Thank you in advance.

Look
check if there's an NTFS partition left on it
some drives have a backup partition
as the very first partition (a few MB or GB)
and the PS3 only sees the first partition of a USB drive
go to the disk manager to check:
control panel
system and security
administrative tools
computer management
disk management
