Hello,
I just bought a laptop with Windows 8. When it starts up, it detects the Freebox Wi-Fi network, but remains on "limited connection," while the other computers in the house have no issues. Fortunately, to get a normal connection, I can:
- either disconnect and reconnect to the network
- or use the network diagnostic tool, which tells me it has fixed the problem "Wi-Fi does not have a valid IP configuration"
After that, I can access the internet. But I have to repeat this process every time I start the laptop, so I would like to resolve the underlying issue...
Thank you in advance for your responses :)

I had an option on my Wi-Fi card in device manager regarding the Wi-Fi card and the power management, to uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off this device to save energy.

Thank you for this response, simple and effective!! :)

Thank you very much!
For me, switching from WPA2-personnel to WPA personnel resolved this issue.
1. Click on the network symbol (in the taskbar)
2. Right-click on my limited connection
3. Choose: Show connection properties
4. Select the Security tab
Finally --> 5. in Security type, switch to WPA personal

Personally, this tutorial saved my life

1) go to Network and Sharing Center
2) on the left, change adapter settings
3) go to the concerned network
4) right click, properties
5) look for and click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
6) click on properties
7) check: obtain an IP address automatically
8) then close the window ^^
I hope this helped you.

Hello,
I had the same problem and it seems to come from the IP address assignments.
After several days of intensive research, I found a solution that works for me:
I unchecked the box "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" in the internet connection properties, and no more limited connection!

"However, we have also observed that IPv6 was incorrectly configured for a small portion of the population (0.01% of the world), apparently due to a router or Internet service provider issue. This is not so surprising, as IPv6 is a relatively new technology, and errors can occur. But for these unfortunate users, this could have a significant impact on their daily Internet usage."
I just wanted to point out a solution that works for me and share it in case it might be helpful to someone. ;-)
Under no circumstances do I claim that it's a general rule or THE solution.
Indeed, the author of the article does not go into technical details and I would be quite incapable of doing so. But it was by reading it that I attempted this solution.

Hi,
indeed, it's not normal, check if there's an update for your Wi-Fi card driver.
otherwise, as a workaround, you can set a static IP address on your network card, including the address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS.
you can find these values in an ipconfig/all (I assume that still exists under W8).
however, make sure to use an IP address outside the DHCP range of the Freebox.
and ... There you go!

Hello,
I am exactly in the same situation as al, except that on my side the problem persists even after setting a static IP address. I also checked the drivers for the Wi-Fi card. I don't understand because the settings I see in the ip config seem "correct." Thank you for your help as I'm a bit lost...

Hello,
I have the same issue at startup. I uninstalled the Wi-Fi driver, rebooted the modem and the router, performed a system restore, ran Windows diagnostics, and nothing works. The exclamation mark is there and disappears on its own after 5 minutes when everything is fine, and in the worst case, after 13 hours... I haven't tried setting a static IP yet. But I'm puzzled because I tested it wired directly to the modem and I'm also limited in connectivity!! Meanwhile, all the other PCs and smartphones in the house are working fine. I'm on W7. Any ideas?

Go to wifi.free.fr. Follow the procedure to obtain the Wifi credentials (which are not the same as the free ADSL credentials).
Hello everyone, new on the forum, I'm here to find help !!
So, for several weeks, my laptop running Windows 8 is sometimes very well connected to the internet via Wi-Fi, but sometimes I have a limited connection :(
As I write this message, I am connected to the internet through my phone =)
But the thing I don't get is that when I connect via cable, everything works fine !!
Then I switch back to Wi-Fi, it works for a few minutes, and then Boom! it goes back to limited connection !!
I hope to receive help from you, because this is becoming quite annoying.
PS: the 3 other PCs at my place have no problems, and I am the only one on Win 8 ;)

I have the same problem as Thomas, every hour I get disconnected 2 to 3 times and I am on a limited connection. I'm only on Wi-Fi.
So I disconnect from my network and then reconnect directly, and it works again but it starts again every hour, disconnecting me 2 to 3 times from my network, so I repeat the operation multiple times a day but it’s getting really annoying.
If anyone has a tip, that would be great, thanks.

Hi, I have the same problem except that when I connect it via Ethernet it works perfectly... But I'm not the one to tell you that W8 is a mistake... I realize that... And if you explain your issue to your provider (Orange for me), they will tell you that they will send a technician to your home for €80 for the trip :O ^^
I encountered the same problem.
ASUS PC running Windows 8, wired connection via Ethernet is perfect but limited via Wi-Fi. If you are using the AVG antivirus software, uninstall it, and the connectivity will no longer be limited. In my case, it worked. (It's a shame because I really liked that software.)

I have the same issue with Win8... but only when I try to connect to the internet via the Freewifi hotspot oO^^
And no issues with my PCs running Win7 and XP.. ;)
So I can connect normally to my private Wi-Fi with Win8.. :)
But indeed on my Freewifi hotspot I have: "limited connection"... and therefore I also don't even have the login web page ^^
So what now?
There you go...

very interesting your two links ...
indeed it resembles my problem ...
because I only have this issue with my new laptop which is running win8 ...
my computers running xp and win7 connect perfectly to my freewifi ...
and my win8 laptop connects perfectly to my private wifi from my box ...
so ...
and this might also explain why one of my android tablets, which connected perfectly for 6 months to freewifi, can no longer connect ^^ while on the private wifi there are no issues and on the sfr-hotspot wifi, it also connects perfectly ...
only freewifi no longer connects ^^
and my two other tablets still connect perfectly to my/my freewifi ...
so it seems that freewifi indeed blacklists MAC addresses ...
now, I need to find how to change the MAC address of my pc running win8 and the same for my android tablet ...
thank you,
