Hello there!
I'm sorry to disturb you like this, but I can't take this square or rectangle anymore.
Actually, how can I explain exactly?
I've had an iMac for almost 6 months now. The thing is, for the past few days, every time I turn on my iMac, a square appears around an icon.
And when I go online, this square shrinks and moves to the back arrow. And when I write something or click somewhere on a page, this square adjusts to the size of what I "select."
It's not so much the problem of it going where I click that bothers me, but when I'm not clicking on anything, it just pops up in the middle of the page, with no logic to it, and honestly, it's starting to get on my nerves. And I don't really know how to get rid of it; I've looked around but apparently not enough.
Have I described my issue well? Anyway, if someone could help me... that would be very, very kind!
Thank you in advance,
Puyette

It’s good, I finally found it, thanks to the fact that I noticed there was a guy talking. It’s the VoiceOver system doing that. There you go, well thank you very much Gihef anyway, it’s very kind of you to have responded.
Actually, I must have activated it by accident with the keys... anyway! It’s over, arf, I’ll be able to regain a semblance of mental health lol

Hello,
“Did I describe my problem well?”
Yes.
However, some additional information might be useful.
Can you check:
— Apple Menu–System Preferences
— Accounts, then your account
— Login tab
— indicate what is in Login items at startup…
?
Or, you can upload a screenshot somewhere* and come back to give us the link.
Can you also show us screenshots of what you described in the same way?
1- “a box that appears around an icon”
2- “this box shrinks and goes to the previous arrow”
3- “this box sizes itself to whatever I 'select'”
4- “it ends up in the middle of the page”
?
+ What version of Mac OS X are you using?
* In case you need, here's where to store these copies.

I encountered the same issue as you and I thought it was related to the installation of a particular program. While looking in the Activity Monitor, I noticed a process called "screenreader" that I had never seen before, but I hadn't connected it with VoiceOver... Unintentionally, I must have activated it via the shortcut (Command F5).
Thank you again!
