Hello,

I am an intern and I am working on a 3Com 5500G EI switch. The administrator forgot the admin password, so I can only access the switch through the manager login, which does not have all the rights.
I would like to know how to reboot the switch in order to reset the passwords to zero?

Thank you.

Hi, I have a switch to configure, but I'm having a problem with resetting this switch (Cisco 2950).

Passwords are stored in a file. You just need to boot from the switch at startup and the passwords are reset to factory default config.
Thank you.

Hello,

Indeed, the documentation states that I can perform a reboot in the hyperterminal, which I did, and all the configuration was erased except for the passwords!
I also performed an initialize in the web interface of the switch, with the same effect! Furthermore, there is no small hole to insert a pin....
How can I fully reset the switch?

Thank you very much.

Hi, just take a good look at your switch, both in the front and the back, it should have a small hole. Take a pen and when you restart your switch, press the button for 1 minute.
Your switch should restart automatically. That's it, see you!

To erase all configurations (wrong manipulations) on an HP EI 5120 48G 2-slot switch, you need to enter the command "reset saved-configuration" in "user view", so at the step "<switch>". Useful information: to know which command to type, enter "?" wherever you want to display help like "/?" in Windows MS-DOS. For example: interface ten-gigabitethernet ?, it will display all the commands in addition to that.</switch>

You should have a little "hole" on the front or the back, and use a little pen to press it, and it will restart.

It's probably mentioned in the manufacturer's documentation, in which case there wouldn't be the same system.

There you go, see ya!

Explain your problem because right now you haven't said anything precise.

LOOOOOOOOOOLLL my internship supervisor just asked me to reset a switch, so I'm having a good laugh seeing the topic =)

But to reset a switch, we used to use a hyperterminal (which no longer exists in seven), so we now use a software called PUTTY (for a switch from the PROcurve brand).

HYPERTERM is available on seven, just look for it.

On Nortel switch, you go to enable then the command "boot default"

then "y"

and there you go, the original configuration is restored.
