Video subtitling -> Audio sync issues

Hello,

I'm trying to get into video subtitling, and since I'm just starting out, there has to be a problem somewhere.

I'm using Aegisub to create the subtitles and generate a .ssa file that I associate with a .avi video using AVI ReComp. So far, everything is fine, the subtitles are embedded in the video, but then there's a progressive audio delay, and I have no idea how to fix that.

Is this directly related to the software I'm using, or does this happen with all videos?

    Hi,
    You should use a editing software like Windows Movie Maker (I don't use it, so I'm not sure if it can add texts in the timeline).
    You drag your videos onto the timeline, then possibly transitions (fade-ins, etc....) and then the text in the reserved line. You type your text (you can also move the text part with the cursor), then you generate a file, but I believe WMM can only do formats for Windows (WMV). You would need the latest version for that (version 2, I believe).

      I already tried with this software (version 2.6), the texts that can be added are not useful for the subtitles: the video I want to translate already has English subtitles, so I use Aegisub to hide them and overlay the French ones. I also tried dragging the video with subtitles into the "Video" part + the original video in "Audio" but it comes back to the same thing.

      are the subtitles hardcoded or do you have a separate file?
      if your subtitles are hardcoded and in a black bar, we can use xmedia recode
      to recreate a black bar without subtitles in order to re-embed the new subtitle

      for aegisub you displayed your video in the software and adjusted it line by line
      have you tried opening your video with VLC and then adding your new subtitle to check if
      the audio sync issue was present on the original

      with mkv merge you can mux the original with your new subtitle file to also
      check the sync, there is no encoding, a gradual audio delay can come from the frame rate
      not being identical to the source during encoding,

      finally I use xvid4psp5 to embed the ass (the shadow effects are present)

      Thanks for the idea! The audio delay is not present in the original, but I downloaded xvid4psp5 and it seems to be perfect! The only problem is with recording using this software, how do we do it? I managed to add the video with the subtitles but I can't see anything at all for recording!

      you will need to re-encode the video, the ideal is to have media info to know its characteristics.

      resolution
      framerate (frame rate)
      bitrate
      once you have recovered these values, you need to input them into the software to try not to degrade the video.
      I don’t have my PC on hand but you can go on YouTube and type xvid4psp 5
      there you will find tutorials, you apparently have to encode your video in avi (xvid + mp3)

      under subtitles (add subtitles)
      you will then visualize it in the window

      in avi format 
      go to video encoding and choose an xvid profile, one pass. 
      be careful, in the profile you may find a quantizer; you need to switch it to bitrate. 
      and report the original value. 
      in audio encoding choose mp3 128k 
      enqueue then encode 
      there you go, off the top of my head.
