Hello,
at my place, I have an ethernet connection from my box and 2 wifi connections (free wifi + connection to my box via wifi).
I would like that when I start my computer, it connects primarily through ethernet.
I saw on some forums that it was necessary to change the network metric. I tried without success (setting it to 1 for one and 256 for the other in both directions).
Of course, I can switch the wifi connections to manual, but that means I have to re-enter the credentials every time, which I would rather avoid.
Thank you for your advice.
Have a nice day
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 14.0.1

Managing wireless networks only allows for managing... wireless networks. It allows for listing wireless networks in order of priority.
Ultimately, I just had to ask the question to find the answer. It is indeed the metric value that needs to be modified.
Open the Network and Sharing Center
Click on Change adapter settings
Right-click on the Ethernet connection and select Properties
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click on Properties
Click on Advanced
Uncheck Automatic Metric
Enter a value in the Interface Metric field.
Do the same for the Wi-Fi network adapter.
To make Ethernet prioritize over Wi-Fi:
- Ethernet network metric = 1
- Wi-Fi metric = 2 (apparently 256, he didn't get it!)
The network with the smallest number is prioritized.

Hello and thank you, but how do you check if it worked and why this number 256?
