[DD Multimedia QPS] file playback issue Solved

Question

Hello!
I just bought a QPS Profil 35 DivX multimedia hard drive with 320 GB. The problem is that only 1/3 of the DivX files displayed on the TV are readable. For the other 2/3 of the DivX files, when you click on them to play, everything freezes and you have to turn the hard drive off and on again. Regarding the photo files in Jpeg format, the list shows gibberish and none of them open when you click on them.
Could someone tell me what I can do to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

I encountered the same problems with a 250 GB hard drive!  QPS is a very quirky company… but especially absent for any issues.   The only solution I found is to partition the drive with a main partition < 130GB to be readable on the TV. The second partition is used only for storage.   Product and brand to avoid. I also bought this hard drive. I can connect it to my TV and it shows the DivX files, but not the subtitles. How can we fix this? I put the subtitles with the movie in the same file with the same name. But when the TV displays the subtitles, they are all small gray boxes. I hope someone can help me.  Thanks in advance. I also have a QPS 320Go, and I have no problems.
All my DIVX files are playing fine.
Subtitles are not supported, and neither are MKV files.
Right now I have 50Go of DIVX on it, and I had an issue with one movie where there was a sound delay.

The problem I’m facing is with the file system which is FAT32, thus limiting the size of the files I can store on it.

We can't do anything. We can't update the codecs, hence its low price. (In France, I bought it at Auchan for €150).  So if you want to play MKV files with subtitles, you will need to look for another multimedia hard drive (Peekton..).

I see that many of us have fallen for it; I was also thinking that this 320 GB multimedia hard drive was cheap! I bought it at Auchan.  Let’s say that half of the movies I watch have issues, whether with sound, large pixels, or almost always sound delay. And sometimes it starts playing the beginning of the chosen movie and immediately switches to a second movie.  It’s all very hit-or-miss, and the movies that do work have poor quality; the red colors are filled with tiny squares, and when you get close to the TV screen, you can clearly see horizontal lines. Besides, the edges of the screen are flickering.  It's a shame because it's so convenient not to have to burn CDs anymore!  It is obvious that one of the big problems is the codecs!  Well, I might ask for a refund; has anyone made such a request to Auchan? Otherwise, I'll keep it as an external hard drive!  Can we access the software and update the codecs?

Before buying, don't you check out the sites? Personally, I bought it because it was cheap, that's all, and I'm happy with it, all my divx play. And if they don't play, a little one-hour re-encoding with the software called SUPER and there you go, it's all good (image in DIVX universal and sound in mp3). Yes, in fact I also re-encode the DivX that don't work with another software, I'm going to try "super"...  I haven't managed to fill the disc to more than 120 GB yet to encounter the file management issue in FAT32, but I'm mentally preparing for it  Otherwise, I've already had a strange problem with the creation of several subfolders; when I look on the TV there's nothing in them while on my PC all the files are there, and if I go back to the root, I can see them on the TV... Hello,  when I bought this QPS 35 divx model, I thought that the technology had been mastered enough by now, so I wouldn't have any surprises. Shortly after, a friend bought the same model. The day after next, he tells me that his disk is completely malfunctioning, unable to select the titles. He decides to format it to FAT32, but the result is the same. He returns it to Auchan, and they tell him they don't take back reformatted disks. My buddy made such a fuss that they eventually agreed to take it back in exchange for a voucher. I thought he had just gotten a bad batch, but tonight I plug in my disk and horror! half of the divx files, and worse, the backups of my personal files have disappeared. Verdict: damaged FAT. Overall, I have absolutely no trust in this disk for archiving personal data, so I strongly advise against buying QPS equipment, and I should have suspected it given the very "cheap" packaging and connectors. Consider yourself warned!

Hello, I just checked the forum for help but I can't find a solution. I got this QPS hard drive for my birthday... I partitioned it in FAT32 correctly. But when I connected it to the TV and used the remote to enter the setup, instead of selecting TV, I set it to VGA and now the screen is black/grey with a black band. I pressed TV/VGA to switch back to TV mode but nothing happens. I've even changed the batteries. The remote won't show the setup; the screen is greyish with a black band in the middle. I don't know what happened. If anyone has encountered problems like this, it would be nice to share our ideas for fixes. Thanks!

I also bought this QPDX/KM multimedia hard drive
and the problem I'm having is that my DivX movies are skipping... they all work fine, but the issue is that in the middle of the movie it pauses and I wait 10 seconds to a minute, and then it starts again... sometimes it skips scenes...
So there you go, I’m super disappointed and I'm going to exchange it for a regular external hard drive...
At the beginning, I was going through the menus and it was lagging like crazy to display the DivX, well I found the trick to go directly to "File" with the remote...
So I'm really disappointed, because it was quite convenient... but if the DivX are skipping, and there’s a delay after sound/image... it’s not worth it!!
I think I’ll go back to CDs... it’s stupid!! It’s really shameful!!

Hello, I also have an external hard drive QPS Profil35 320 GB, so the transfer of music and photos works very well for me, and when I connect everything to the TV, it works too. My problem is that I can't transfer movies to the hard drive; an error message appears telling me to check that the access path or the file name is correct!!! Same problem as NONO, a large majority of video transfers fail (file not found on hard drive). I bought a QP3DX 400 Go on Friday, May 25th, and took it back to the Auchan customer service the next day. The technicians formatted the HDD to FAT 32, adding the 4 necessary folders for the proper functioning of this multimedia HDD (File / Photos / Music / Video), folders that were unfortunately absent at the time of purchase (which shows the quality of this product). The problem remains the same: I still can't transfer my divx (not corrupted as they were checked with the GSPOT utility). I'll return it tomorrow... AVOID.

Indeed, I bought the QPS3DX/KM at Conforama.

Low price but issues with audio/video desynchronization even on MPEG-1 (VCD). And nothing on the qpsmultimedia website regarding codec updates, and I haven't seen my model on the site either.

It also does not recognize NTFS (and this is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation), so I used a Linux LiveCD to reformat it to a 400 GB FAT32 partition.

And the PHOTO, VIDEO, ... files were also not at the root of the disk (that's why I didn't have the startup menu as shown in the documentation). Was I sold a second-hand disk? (Additionally, the "included cables" specified in the documentation are missing).

We can flash the firmware, which should then update the codecs, I suppose.
I have a problem with an AVI file using DivX 5.0.2 codec that is not recognized...
Maybe flashing it...

Well... some issues with the 500 MB digital hard drive

WMV files won’t play.
MP3s don’t show up in Music
To flash the firmware, in the "update" folder, I finally managed after several attempts to display the "ntd25fw.bin" file
BUT I can't activate it!!
Moreover, there is a "?" in front of it...
This suggests that it is not recognized... (valid?)
I did download Ver2.31EMC though

I advised this to a friend who bought a multimedia hard drive at a low-cost supermarket (I can't remember the brand), which only played a few movies, and after I installed VLC on his external hard drive, he was able to play everything. I found my solution thanks to a kind gentleman from Storex who took the time to respond to me.  Be careful when using the external hard drive on your Windows XP computer for the first time.  It will ask you to format the hard drive, but you must not format it as NTFS.   THE RESPONSE RECEIVED BY EMAIL:  By formatting the Club Mpix with Windows XP, the hard drive is thus in NTFS, whereas the Mpix mode only works with the FAT32 file system.  Here is the procedure to follow:  WARNING: this procedure can only be executed if you have a computer running WINDOWS XP or 2000 and you are not using this disk on Windows 98 since it will not be recognized with the NTFS file system.  Please follow the steps below:  Delete the partition:  - right-click on My Computer  - then "Manage" then "Disk Management"  - then select your hard drive (Disk 1 or Disk 2, ...)  - right-click "Delete partition"  - a warning message appears "This is the active partition of your disk. All data on the partition will be lost. Are you sure you want to delete this partition?" --> YES  Creating a partition with Swissknife:   Installing Swissknife  1. Download the Swissknife software from the link  http://www.storex.fr/storex/htm/scripts/support_produit.asp?nom_produit=CLUB%20MPiX-355  2. Install the Izarc decompressor if you do not have it.  3. Launch the file DD_swissknife306.zip. The decompressor will automatically open it.  4. Launch the DD_swissknife306.exe. Follow the wizard's instructions.  5. Once installed, connect your mobidisk. Disconnect other USB devices of the same type (USB flash drives, other external hard drives).  6. Launch Swissknife (an icon will appear on your desktop with a small knife). Click on "Continue" and then once on your USB hard drive or USB host adapter 1 (you will see a progress bar starting from DEVICE(S)).  7. Then click on "Partition and Quick format". You will see the partition you created. Select "Delete" (if you have data on the disk, remember to back it up first).  Your disk is now unallocated, meaning empty.  8. Move your cursor to "partition type" and choose "primary", do the same with "file type" and select the file format type as FAT32.  9. Name your "volume label" change SWISSKNIFE1 to STOREX.  10. To the right of the "pie chart", there is a vertical arrow, lower it to the bottom to take the full disk.  11. Use the mouse to select "Create". Your hard drive is now formatted and has a partition.  12. Restart your computer (reboot) while disconnecting the STOREX, once restarted, connect your disk and a STOREX hard drive will appear in My Computer

I tested 4 Storex external hard drives, formatted them several times in FAT32, and still encountered the same problem: after copying several DivX and MP3 files, the files no longer appear on the screen; they are visible on the PC but not on the TV. Hello  I had this problem, so I formatted the 320G disk with a small software "SP27213.EXE" downloaded from the internet. However, I formatted the disk under Windows Millennium because XP had some issues formatting the 320G on the USB port.  Because this disk had a problem with its disk route  and now it works perfectly A.+

Hello, I just bought a multimedia hard drive ref: QP3DX/KM, Profile_35_Dvix. I connected it to my PC to inject photos, videos, and music. Hi,  I had the same problem as you; I purchased the same HDD but in 500GB and I had an issue with audio output isolation. I could hear the HDD noise in the TV speakers when watching a movie, it was inaudible. I also had the problem that when the video page opened, some movies would cause everything to freeze, and I had to reboot the HDD. As a result, I returned it and got a refund. I spent a little more and bought the multimedia player from Storex, which is a bit more expensive but much more complete: it displays movie titles, which you don't have on the QPS, multiple connection options, continuous ventilation, and an immediate response from the remote control. I encountered many issues with the QPS; the remote control didn't always respond. For me, it’s night and day in terms of difference. As for your problems, I can’t give you an answer except that if you contact QPS technical support, you shouldn’t expect a response because it’s been a month since I sent an email and still nothing. But now I no longer have these problems. Good luck and take care!

My QPS 500GB works fine when connected to my PC (well, that's the least one could expect anyway..) but when I connect it to my TV it shows a message saying there is no disc.. "No media"   My partition is in FAT32 and I created the folders /File /photo /Video etc..   Is it possible to update the firmware? Continuation of the case... I went back to Auchan to the customer service.. After a day of testing, they tried several updates and partitioning.. Impossible to make it work! Refund for the hard drive.. I bought the Packard Bell Store and Play 320GB for the same price (180GB less) and it works and is also nice looking!

Hello   I also bought a QPS in May, at first everything was fine and in July I had connection problems with my PC, unknown peripheral, Confo sent it back to QPS and I haven't heard from the supplier. After complaining several times to Confo, they exchanged it for me on September 21 and I still have the same issue; it works well at first and then it no longer functions on my PC, but it works perfectly on the TV. Given the problems I just read about, I’m going to request a refund. Confo told me to download the driver and since there is no driver for this model, I don't want to have any further issues. I think the supplier is not serious because as of now, Confo still has no updates. Don't buy this product, it's garbage and there is no customer service. Hello,  Since I was reimbursed for my QPS, I purchased the Storex 500 GB model: AIVX-360HD and it works perfectly. You can see the specifications on www.storex.eu. The difference with the QPS is that it actually works, lol. It is cooled by a fan, and the device is very sensitive via the remote control; a simple push is enough. With QPS, you have to press at least three times. There are movie titles and other files, not on QPS. For movies, there is just one window; if you have 100 movies, good luck searching for the one you want to watch. Another advantage is multiple connection options and networking. So for me, it's Storex. Best wishes!

On September 28, 2007, when I bought a 500 GB QPS DX multimedia hard drive from CONFORAMA, I thought I was making a good deal. Unfortunately, it turned out in the days that followed that I couldn't play videos on my television because I no longer had access to the functions. The device was returned in its original packaging on 10/22/2007 to CONFORAMA's customer service. Today, 12/04/2007, I was informed that an exchange should be made but that I still have to wait 15 days before receiving the new product. Naturally, an email sent to the company's headquarters went unanswered. Therefore, having been misled about the essential qualities of the product, I can only highly recommend that any potential buyer of a multimedia external hard drive choose another brand.

QP3 DX/KM 500 GB purchased at Conforama. I have no issues with playing Divx (for the moment) on the TV It is true that during transfers from PC to HDD, there were times when it suddenly did not recognize the disk (as if it had disappeared?); it is recognized again after unplugging/replugging the USB; I thought there was simply a bad contact at the mini-USB level, but maybe this is a sign of potential problems?  However, I am indeed experiencing SOUND problems with DVDs (files .vob). Some play (sound on the TV in stereo), others NOTHING at all! I thought (since it is specified that the system supports AC3, i.e., Dolby Digital) that I should use the COAX output (digital AC3 sound) which I connected to my 5.1 amplifier. Result: no sound either!  But the strangest thing is that I see in the SETUP menu options for adjusting "Dolby Digital," but they are grayed out! I cannot access this option ?? Moreover, the manual mentions a screen size setup (4/3 or 16/9, pan&scan) that I do not see anywhere in the menus?  You are right about the QPS site, no help, and this product is not even listed... there is little chance we can expect a BIOS upgrade for this device...  If anyone has had the chance to test the AC3 coax output of the HDD (access to the menu??), or resolved the SOUND issues with DVD playback, it would be nice to let us know. However, for playing DIVX, I must say it works perfectly fine for now and the image quality in 720p component is rather good.  hubione@yahoo.com

We will soon be able to make "membership cards" lol. I bought the QPS QP3DX/KM super promo last Friday, super deal yeah, the result is the same as yours. As soon as it's plugged in, it's a race; you have to quickly find the movie you want to watch (there's no list, only the movie images), before it freezes. What a battle! I called customer service, I'm going there today, and logically I should be able to change the hard drive hoping they don't offer me the same one. Anyway, if they do offer me the same one, I will show them this forum (one among many others). So if you have any issues with it, I hope it's been less than 10 days since you bought it, otherwise your customer service will send it for "repairs". Good luck.

I just bought a QPSM multimedia 500 GB hard drive. Everything works except when I select the DVD format (mpg2). When it displays in small thumbnails in the menu, there's sound and image, but as soon as I click on a thumbnail in the menu, I get very good image but no sound at all! Does anyone have an explanation for this problem? Especially since it says on the box that it's possible to read this kind of DVD format.

Good evening everyone!! With me, that's 1 more pigeon!!! I bought a QPS 250 Gb multimedia HDD and I'm having the same problem as you! Starting from 120 Gb, all the files saved aren't visible on the TV. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a refund because I dropped it before I noticed this problem, I had it repaired, so goodbye warranty!  So the moral of all our messages is "DO NOT BUY THE QPS BRAND" they're cowards who don't respond when we bring up our problems.

I bought this QPS hard drive over a year ago at Auchan, encountered the same issues, sound delays, certain codecs played, selecting a movie from the menu and boom, it opens another movie, in short, a good third of the films need to be re-encoded or simply watched on the PC!!  Fed up, I bought the empty Peekton peebox 3 case for €99, put the QPS hard drive in it, and it works perfectly, all my films are played, no more problems, a DREAM! I received a QPS QP3DX/KM for Christmas and there's a little issue (I know I should have read the forums first, but when your girlfriend who gives the gift isn't super rich, you’re always happy) The problem is that on the PC as an external hard drive, everything works fine. However, on the TV, the LCD screen says no media found, the remote doesn't seem to work, and it’s impossible to turn this thing off with the on/off button.... As a result, you have to unplug it... Damn, she paid 140 euros for a 320GB external hard drive, she could have gotten a bigger one for the same price without multimedia features... Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

I had the same problem, you need to get it refunded and buy another one, and definitely a different brand because you'll always have an issue. I exchanged mine and had to bring it back and asked for a refund. I bought a 500 GB Memup for 149 euros and I have no problems.

Hi, I'm responding for the first arrivals. A standard multimedia hard drive doesn't read MKV subtitles, etc. ... that's normal, and as for the file size, it's designed for 700MB or up to 1400MB, that's normal. The FAT32 format is imperative because the internal software of the hard drive is not Windows XP or Vista, you have to understand that too. But what's certain is that whether on a standalone DVD player, if the sound is delayed or the image stutters or freezes, it's simply that the platform is not powerful enough to handle the encoding, which will likely be an XVID. That's why with every investment, you should check for the presence of the XVID or MPEG4 logo (a DivX with subtitles is presumably an XVID, as well as all the new movies online). Don't hesitate to ask at any customer service, they will confirm it for you. Hence, the re-encoding of some files.  But the general issue where it's no longer playable, I'm disappointed, but the fact of partitioning it is abnormal.

I bought a 500GB multimedia QPS in December 2007 at Conforama.  Since that date, I have had a lot of reading and transfer problems: the hard drive wouldn't "boot" in multimedia mode (I had to do a chkdsk /f/v for it to work again), during playback the divx would freeze and I couldn't turn off the hard drive or press any button. Then two weeks ago, the hard drive malfunctioned almost every day, and three days ago when I plugged it into my PC, Windows recognized it and 10 seconds later it disappeared from the explorer. I then smelled a strong burning odor, and a computer-savvy friend told me that the multimedia enclosure had fried the hard drive's electrical circuit and a resistor in the enclosure had then burned out!! I am going to the Conforama customer service to ask for a full refund of my product at the purchase price because I have obviously lost all my data, which amounts to 430GB.
