Hi,
I have a little internet access issue that suddenly occurred last night; since then I have "limited access" to my connection.
It comes from my laptop (I’m on my desktop right now, so the connection works), and I can't figure out what the problem is.
I tried connecting the laptop with an Ethernet cable and nothing changes (so the issue isn’t due to the Wi-Fi, I suppose), and I also tried accessing a neighbor's free Wi-Fi that I usually connect to, and that still doesn't work.
Is there a trick to perform?
Thank you very much to everyone who will try to help me! =)

I tried what you told me but it didn't yield any better results. I did it yesterday, and then a bit frustrated for having wasted the whole day without any changes, I gave up.
This morning, I did a system restore a few days back, around a "critical update" of Windows, and I don't know if that's what did it, but when the computer rebooted, my internet access was restored!
I hope it won't happen again! =)
Thank you very much for your help, Supertoncar. I don't know where this solidarity comes from that drives you to help internet users in trouble, but it's an action that deserves to be thanked. Well done to you, and see you soon!

Well well well...
Let's be gallant, women and children first :p
@ Pixie91:
If you haven't done it yet, I highly recommend doing what I advised Pierre-Louis here (https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-25874785-connexion-valide-mais-pas-d-acces-internet#6).
Also, if you could, like him, copy the output of your ipconfig/all, it might help me :)
Go to
@ Pierre-Louis:
To set your DNS, go back to:
A window will appear. Select, by clicking ONCE, Internet Protocol Version 4, then, on the right, click on properties.
Another window will appear. You will see that towards the bottom you can set a DNS. Put the same address as your router (192.168.0.1 if my memory serves me right.) then reboot your PC and your router just to make sure the change is taken into account.
A little ipconfig /renew wouldn't hurt after the restart ;)

I did everything you told me. It didn't reconnect me anyway.
I'm attaching the result of the renew (I don't know if it can be useful)

Well, I'm starting to run out of ideas, I'll admit... I'd still like to try a couple of little things.
- Go back to:
Uncheck Internet Protocol version 6 (yes, I did say 6), then confirm. (And yes, it's a horrible copy/paste of what I said earlier :p)
- Access your router's interface and check in the "security" tab to see if there's any MAC address filtering.
- Disable then re-enable the wired network card, then try again with a wired connection to see...
- Go back to:
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connectionsthen, on your network card (wifi) do
right-click>properties

I've actually seen several cases like yours, it turns out that it's a faulty Windows update that caused this, don't worry :)
Hello! Thank you all for this resolved discussion: I am experiencing the same issue today with the PC while the Mac connected to the same network is working fine. However, I am wondering about the restoration which, if I understand correctly, will undo the last update (August 15th?): will the issue not resurface with the next update?
Hello :)
First of all, a big thank you Supertoncar for your help ;)
So here's what happened. I followed your advice, tried several times but to my great despair lol nothing was getting better.
After reading Pierre Louis' last message, I thought I would try a system restore as well, and the same, it fixed the problem, access to the internet is finally restored. So there you go, I'm happy even though I would have liked to know the origin of this issue in case it happens again, which I hope it won’t!
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to help us!

Hello,
I have the same problem since this morning; in any case, after reading Pierre Louis's explanations, I think it's pretty much the same.
Basically, last night I was connected and everything was working fine, but since this morning, every time I try to connect, my PC connects but I can't access any web pages. There's always this little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark that appears and says "no internet access," even though it says "connected." When I dig a bit deeper, it seems that my PC is indeed connected to my router, but the router is not connected to the internet. Which is impossible since I'm writing to you live from my mother's laptop. Moreover, I'm having the same issue even with unprotected neighboring connections. The PC is brand new, not even a month old, and this is the first time I've experienced this issue.
I hope you can help me along with Pierre Louis. If you need any more details or even screenshots, etc., to better understand where the problem is coming from, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I am in the same situation as Pierre Louis and Pixie91: no internet access on the laptop since August 19/20, no Windows Update updates.
Except that I tried restoring from an earlier point and it fails to restore (I tried the automatic restoration points and the others: nothing works).
Here is the message:
red cross logo!
System restore has not been completed.
Detail: The system restore could not replace the file (c:\Windows) with its original copy... an error occurred during the restoration: (0x80071a90)
...
Try another backup point or advanced recovery method.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance.

Several things:
1) Disable and then re-enable your wifi card in
2) Restart your router (if you don't know how to do it, unplug it and plug it back in 10 seconds later, just to avoid roughing up your router).
3) Wait for the router to finish restarting, then in the Windows command prompt, type

Your DNS server is set in your box somewhere. It's going to be a simple IP address but the way to find it will vary depending on the firmware of the box (meaning that depending on the interface, you won't find it in the same place).
Once you have the address (there are actually two addresses, a primary DNS and a secondary one), ping both of them with your favorite cmd :)

Same problem since the Windows Update of August 18, 2012. I restored to the backup from August 15, 2012, and everything is back to normal.
Hello,
Exactly the same problem as Pierre-Louis and Pixie, since around August 15th, no way to access the internet even though the computer was connected. I restored the system starting from August 14th, and everything is back to normal. A big, BIG thank you to Pierre-Louis and Supertoncar for their advice!!

I ran an ipconfig, apparently it can help.
