Noisy SSD???

The noise is supposed to be nothingness.

But there is indeed a slight noise when you put your ear to it. ;-)

In their case, it seems more pronounced, so an electronics defect is possible.

I’m okay with that, but in the environment of a running PC, you really need a good ear! Fine... ;-)

More seriously, if we set aside the PSU, HDDs, regular drives, and fans which generate a lot of noise, the remaining “noise” in a PC isn’t non-existent but is generated solely by the power transistors and the power stages dedicated to the processor, the DDR, and the controller(s).
When the CPU is heavily loaded (thus the power stages), specifically when demanding a large data transfer, for example, you can sometimes distinguish a slight noise on certain motherboards that resembles a slight whine or a duller, more muted sound that fluctuates. To me, that’s what he hears.


For SSDs, there are no power stages, nor power transistors comparable to those on a motherboard, and I’ve never encountered one that was audible, even though it has never occurred to me to test one individually on a bench (I’ll have to try it).

But who knows, maybe I’ll find one, but until today, I consider that among the many urban legends.

My Samsung 840 SSD is making a whistling sound, and I don't need to be able to distinguish the noise from a fan or a transistor to know it's a whistling sound coming from the SSD.
And I don't particularly have a keen ear.
It will be sent for warranty service because this is still a rare issue but one that needs to be reported to everyone.
