Unrecognized burner Windows Media Player 11 Solved

Question

I have a big problem with Windows Media Player 11 and my burner (PIONEER 111D). When I try to burn with WMP 11, it's impossible; in the column of my selection, at the top, it says "connect a burner and restart the player." I checked that the burning services are OK. Could you help me?

Go to Start/Run and type services.msc
in the right pane of the Services console, double-click on the entry CD Burning COM Service IMAPI, set the startup type to "Automatic"
click on the "Start" button
click on "Apply"
close the console
and that's it.

Good evening,  I had the same problem but I don't have a solution yet. However, I downloaded CD Burner XP pro and I'm burning with it. It recognized the burner and no more problems.

Maybe, but I doubt that CD Burner Pro XP can do what Windows Media Player knows how to do: remove DRM protections from files during burning. That's why we insist on having a solution to the LWM problem, and not an idea that doesn't solve the problem.

I have the same problem as you all, but it happened suddenly because at first, the system was working very well.
I applied Ulquiorra's solution, and the problem remains intact.
This problem is really related to Windows Media Player because the burner works perfectly fine.

The whole point is to understand why it was working and suddenly it no longer recognizes the drive. It seems that it's either a bug with WMP 11 or a deliberate decision to prevent us from burning.
The problem is that they do not acknowledge this anomaly and provide no guidance.
I tried reverting to another version and what a mess that was.
I will try to find a product that is just as user-friendly! Because for now, I do not have a solution.
Furthermore, it seems to me that WMP 11 was developed for Vista with a trial version for XP, which may explain why the product is buggy.

I quote "it seems that this is either a bug in WMP 11 or an intention not to let us burn."
As far as I remember, the burners were working perfectly until I downloaded a song from SFR and tried to burn it to remove the damn DRM. In the properties of this MP3, it says "this file cannot be burned and this file cannot be synced".
Please find the solution to this crap, I would be grateful.

Same here, my burner worked at first, I managed to burn 1 or 2 CDs! No more! And then: poof! Nothing at all, something must have triggered it, but what? "Connect a burner and restart" even with a highly skilled technician, nothing works!

I have the same phenomenon on Vista 64-bit, WMP 11 does not recognize my burner, whereas, for example, Burn4Free works.
I suspect it's a Windows-related issue because I have the same problem when using "Windows Movie Maker" to burn the DVD or directly with "DVDMaker.exe".
Having edited my film with "Windows Movie Maker", how can I burn a DVD based on the "project" I made?
And in what format so that I can play this DVD on my standalone player connected to the TV?
If, for example, I publish the film in WMP format and burn it with Burn4Free, it is not playable on the living room player. I suppose a conversion is necessary... but I don't know how...

The mysteries of Windows??? I had already done it, just tried several times again, you never know? But nothing works! IMAPI CD Burning COM Service, if it is not started, manual or automatic, you can't burn any CDs, yet, on all the other burners, it burns. I will wait for WMP12!!! Maybe that will help? LOL! I'm really sorry, it still doesn't work. I followed Ulquiorra's method to the letter, then yours, after reboot: same! "Connect a burner and restart" (my burner is the NEC 3550) it reads perfectly and burns with 3 or 4 other software, including Nero. I'm at a loss now? Thanks anyway td49.

I have an HP 6600 laptop with Vista Home Premium. It's practically new. I was able to install Office, listen to one or two CDs, and suddenly, nothing: the CD-DVD drive is not working anymore. The seller told me over the phone, since I've since gone to Edinburgh for my studies, to download VLC and everything would be fine. I did that, but it's still not working. I checked: the CD-DVD drive is supposedly functioning normally! I have the impression that it is no longer connected, as I no longer have the little blue light. Since I installed "Magis Photos on Luxury CD & DVD 6", I can no longer burn music using Windows Media Player with my burner "TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-H552D". I followed the advice without success. It took a long time! To find it!! The guys talk to you about codecs, drivers... and other grandma's recipes! It's exactly the opposite of what they say. Try the IMAPI burning service, stop it, then set it to manual and not automatic! And there you go! It's back!!! Otherwise, in automatic mode, Nero takes over!

The two registry keys now available are not concordant: one enables automatic startup while the other disables it.   Therefore, one of the keys mentioned in the explanation of the provided link is missing. As a reminder: "Explanation: The fix above rolls back two Windows registry settings that were changed during the installation. One of them is just the autostart function, the other one is the "allocatecdroms" setting, which was supposed to enable burning for restricted users, which is otherwise problematic under Windows."   Can someone provide the two keys that are supposed to make the burner work under WMP11?   Many thanks in advance to him!!!

Hello, I also had the same problem with my burner not being recognized. I even uninstalled WMP11 to install version 10, but the burner was still not recognized. After that, I came across your site, curious that other people had the same issue. I diligently followed the possible solutions, such as setting the burner to automatic startup in the IMAPI service, but there was no result. Then, someone shared a website to check out http://www.stom66.co.uk/index.php/news/9/15.html. I went there and downloaded two files from the site. They opened with WinRAR, and I double-clicked each file. I was asked if I wanted to include these files in the registry, and I clicked ok for both. I closed my PC and reopened it. Salut à vous tous, quand je mets un DVD dans mon lecteur, rien ne se passe, il ne s'ouvre pas. Avant, cela lançait le lecteur multimédia et maintenant, il ne fait plus rien.
