Hello,
For the past few days, my CPU and GPU have been reaching record temperatures while gaming (BF3): between 80 and 85°C. This of course comes with major lags. Under Windows, the temperatures hover around 42°C.
I have changed the thermal paste, added a fan to the cooler, and of course, cleaned everything thoroughly. But the temperatures are still the same while gaming...
Does anyone have any ideas to help with my problem?
Here's my setup:
- Intel i5 760 2.8 GHz
- Gigabyte P55A UD5
- Zotac GTX 470 1.25 GB
- 2x3 G. Skill DDR3
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 13.0

I fixed the lags; it was a RAM issue. Now the question is why this temperature is so high.
I also thought about faulty sensors, except that the temperatures are >80° (in game) for the CPU and GPU. So both would have to be malfunctioning...
And there's enough space to dissipate the heat.
Does anyone know how to check the reliability of the sensors?

Hello
For the GPU, that's +/- normal; a high-performance graphics card heats up, and the GTX 470 is one of them...
For the CPU, that's starting to be a lot; what kind of cooler do you have on your i5-760 originally?

Before asking a question: 1° The brain doesn't wear out if you use it; don't hesitate to use it!
2° Google is your friend, and the search engine from CCM is helpful too, so do some research!

Nothing is original, the CPU cooler and my 2 fans mounted on it are good quality Cooler Master ones.
Good evening.
Is your PC in an open space that allows it to dissipate heat properly?
Still, it's quite strange; I have the same processor, and I reach 45°C while playing BF3 (I have a Noctua, but that doesn't explain the difference). I would have said it's a sensor issue if it weren't for the lags.

The temperatures are normal... they are indeed correct. Under normal circumstances, with normal use of the computer... I reach 70 degrees and that is very normal...
If you play games, it's normal for the temperature to rise and reach 80... A CPU is designed to shut down as soon as it reaches temperatures above 100 degrees... You will never fry your CPU.
In short, if you start reaching temperatures above 90 degrees... Then you can ask yourself questions and I recommend you see a computer expert. :)
Pleasure!
