CPU at 82 degrees while gaming

Too many different CPUs to generalize.
Older CPUs are more prone to overheating than newer ones; we used to fry them, it's a failure that is seen less often, and each CPU has a limit stated on the Intel ARK site.
For some i5M, that is to say for laptops, Intel indicates a maximum of 105° C.
For other CPUs, 80° C is already too hot.
On a desktop, it's easier to modify cooling as well. Sometimes you can reduce the voltage, thus lowering the temperature without decreasing the frequency, keeping the CPU stable.
At one point, Intel used thermal paste between the chip and the IHS instead of metal; these models cannot be overclocked very high as temperature becomes a limiting factor even with very good cooling.
However, many gamers and overclockers often run above the limits recommended by Intel. Reading gaming forums for your CPU can provide you with a lot of practical information.
Recent CPUs self-regulate their temperature by limiting/reducing frequency, and are therefore theoretically never in danger.
AMD also has limits that change depending on the model.

So, the i5-7200U can support up to 100 degrees without risk,
