More than 4 hours of Avira scan and 29% completed..........

Hello, everything is in the title and I'm scratching my head but.......... the inspiration isn’t coming!!!! Still, 4 hours for ............ barely 30% completed for full system scan........... now I have a doubt; should I change my antivirus ........
Thanks if anyone has an idea ...........

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

    I don't know Avira, except by name, but the scan definitely depends on the size of your hard drives... and their % of usage.... what is it?

      I would also add that if it's a first scan, that plays a role too. Personally, my first full scan with Malwarebytes took 8 hours, and now it takes less than 2. Other factors can also come into play sometimes, like fragmentation, or simply the power of the PC.

      The disk is used at 23.4GB out of 55.8GB.

    The scan has been taking place every day for.......a long time, but recently, it takes more and more time each time!!

    For a disc like that, it seems huge to me... look at the number of objects next time...
    But do you scan every day???!

    Yes, I do a scan every day......... since my infection that caused me to lose some things; is the scan longer if we click "minimize" the window, or if the screen goes to sleep??? As for the number of objects, I’ll check that today and I’ll come back to tell you

    so......... Avira started at 9:50 AM and has just finished: which makes it 5h18m21s; the search for hidden objects lasted 20m for 520,678 objects checked; file control search, so the rest for 1,037,152 files checked; once it reached 100%, it continued until 1,062,136 files checked; it really takes its time.........!!!!!!

    Personally, I've never seen so many files, especially on such a small hard drive... but hey, knowing that I have AVST and that it takes me about an hour for 320 GB disks... I don't always watch it, but it seems to me that it scans about 150,000 files, I don't always watch... wait for other opinions!
    Do you clean your disk from time to time?

    You could also run Ccleaner for the registry....
