Good evening,
A question that has been asked many times in this forum:
Yes, Avira is a good antivirus, but is it the best? Sorry, I don't have the qualifications to answer that:
A little reading:
https://sebsauvage.net/rhaa/index.php?2009/03/30/12/47/39-les-antivirus-gratuits-sont-bons
And yes, the best antivirus you can find is yourself by avoiding dangerous sites.
Good continuation

Good evening,

there are no better answers.
I'll tell you the best for me is AVAST and in return, you're going to receive a triad of responses saying definitely not, it's a sieve ????
Some say the best: (among the free ones)
AVIRA
AVG
AVAST
ETC..........................
For your update, check out the forum today, so not too much to look for, lots of answers on Avira updates. If you can't find it, just let me know ;-)
Electrician, I left you a message in PM with Vincent.

re,
the Avira update server is a bit overwhelmed, go through this:

configure avira like this:
right-click on its icon in the taskbar and select Configure Antivir.
check the box: Expert Mode (at the top left of the window)..
=> Click on Scanner in the left pane:
> In "Files" select All files.
> In the search procedure, check Allow stop, and in "scanner priority" select Medium.
> In "Other settings" check all the boxes.
DO NOT FORGET THE ROOTKIT SCAN WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT!
=> Click on "Scan" in the left pane and apply the same settings as before.
=> Expand "Scan" by clicking on the +. Click on "Heuristic":
> Check "MacroVirus Heuristic" and "Win32 file Heuristic" with MEDIUM identification degree!
=> In the left pane, expand "Guard":
check: monitor during reading and writing, then next to it: all files.
