My mouse does not appear in Device Manager

Hello,
I'm on XP, and my mouse isn't working (cursor is frozen, clicks not detected)
when going to Device Manager, the mouse doesn't appear.

Everything was working fine 2 hours ago, my computer crashed and it no longer recognizes my mouse (it's a PS/2 mouse).

Does anyone know how to get it to recognize it?

(using actions that can be done without a mouse if possible)

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
without the mouse it's difficult to do anything.
The only thing that comes to mind is to turn off the PC, (ctrl alt delete or with the button).
Unplug the mouse from the port, restart, turn off again, plug the mouse back in, and restart to force Windows to recognize it.
You should never plug in PS2 while the PC is on.
If that doesn't work, you'll need to find a USB mouse.
Maybe it's the port, maybe it's the mouse. Check with another PS2 mouse.
You can also try to see if it works in safe mode, but I doubt it.

I saw that by the time I responded you had added some clarifications.
So to get to the device manager, did you use a USB mouse?
If you have the Windows CD, you can insert it and in the run window type
sfc /scannow and let Windows restore the missing files.

This is because Windows crashed, but apparently if your mouse is not detected in the BIOS, it means it is dead, it won't change anything for the mouse.
Crashed how, software or electrical problem?
If it’s electrical, you can try resetting the BIOS battery with the jumpers on the motherboard and see if the mouse is recognized again.

my computer crashed when I plugged an Ethernet cable into it (guess the error...-_-) I think it's more of an electrical issue since I have to restart it 2-3 times to access the desktop

otherwise, to access the device manager, I went through: start - run by typing: devmgmt.msc
which opens the manager without a mouse

and I don't have my Windows CD

If it's an electrical problem, and there isn't too much damage apart from the PS2 port, there's still the solution of a USB mouse.

    re-Hello,

So my mouse doesn't appear in Device Manager or in the BIOS
Yet it was working before my PC crashed. So it's not a driver issue, nor a problem with a bent plug or connection.

If someone can help me please, I don't really know what to do anymore ^^'
