[Firefox 9.0.1] The URL is not valid and does not..

Hello everyone!
-
I'm reaching out because Mozilla is acting up.
-
After installing the software, the default homepage of the browser (about:home) won't load, and a message appears: "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."
-
The same goes for "about:sessionrestore," which allows you to restore your tabs after closing the browser.
-
I see you might suggest plugins/add-ons that could cause this issue, but in my case, that's not it! I've just reformatted the PC and NO add-on has been installed on FF yet.
-
I tried a clean reinstall with ccleaner, registry cleanup, etc... nothing. I attempted to install an older version and then upgraded to the new one from the browser... still nothing. I even tried to reconfigure the homepage internally (about:config) in case it was a configuration error during installation, and guess what? Still nothing!
-
I thought it might be a bug in FF 9.0.1, but no, since FF works perfectly fine on my friends' computers...
-
So after (almost) trying everything, I'm turning to you, professionals, geeks, hobbyists who might have a solution to my problem!
-
If you find it, you'll make more than one person happy because apparently, this issue also affects quite a few people online (http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-2825968-firefox-alerte-l-url-n-est-pas-valide for example)
-
Here are my specs:
Windows XP / Firefox 9.0.1

Apparently, this is a known bug in XP SP3 that makes the entry list of about:about incomplete and also causes issues with missing protocols, hence the URL error that breaks the M&M's.

One way to fix it: install Net Framework 3.5!

For everyone who has the same issue, we FINALLY have the solution!

Thanks to who? Abraxas from Geckozone! He's awesome :)

    Good evening,

I suggest you uninstall Firefox and perform a clean reinstallation.

Before uninstalling it, you can back up your bookmarks:
    Open Firefox
    Bookmarks
    Show All Bookmarks
    Import and Backup
    Export to HTML...
    Save it on the desktop.

Go to add and remove programs and uninstall --> Firefox

During the uninstallation of Firefox, agree to uninstall everything,
    check: delete all my files

After uninstallation, restart the PC, go to: C\program files and delete the folder --> Mozilla Firefox.

Run -->CCleaner for a cleanup in Windows, applications and registry.

Then the suggested procedure is to delete the keys in the registry.
    Go to start
    Run
    Type: regedit and OK.

At the top, click on edit, find (Ctrl+F), type: mozilla, check the keys, values, data boxes and click next.

The search begins, when a file appears, delete everything related to mozilla, then press F3 to continue the search and do the same until the search is complete.

Repeat the same procedure by typing: firefox

    Install --> Firefox
    Then to recover your bookmarks:
    Open Firefox
    Bookmarks
    Show All Bookmarks
    Import and Backup
    Import from HTML....
    Next
    Look in: desktop
    Select -->bookmarkbackups.html

Check if the cause could be --> ask toolbar or others?

    Run this utility --> AdwCleaner
    and click on search.

Look at the report and if there's the presence of toolbars, adware, etc... Restart it and click on delete.

    Download and install --> MalwareBytes

Update it and run it for a scan.

    Check this --> tutorial

Don't worry: it's a known bug in Firefox 9.0.1. It happens to me on XP SP2 and XP SP3, but there's no problem on 7 SP1. We just have to wait and hope it gets fixed...

That's the most plausible answer! But when will this bug be fixed?...
Do you have a link to contact the Firefox staff?

      Thank you for your response!

Despite a clean uninstall and reinstall of Firefox, it is quite possible that there is an infection?

So it is up to you to execute the proposal in the --> message 5
or to open a new topic in the forum --> virus/security
and request a system analysis to check for an infection.

There is no infection. It's either a bug or an error in the executive script somewhere in the system.

    Hello Firefox9Bug

If you don't mind, we will check if this is indeed of an infectious nature

    For that:

    First of all, please register

For more information, please do the following

Open this link and download ZHPDiag from Nicolas Coolman:

    https://www.zebulon.fr/telechargements/securite/systeme/zhpdiag.html

    Or

    https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/24803-zhpdiag/

    Server No. 2

    Or

    http://www.premiumorange.com/zeb-help-process/zhpdiag.html
at the bottom of the ZHP page with a version number.

Once the download is complete, unzip the obtained file and place ZHPDiag.exe on your Desktop.

Double-click on the icon to launch the program. On Vista or Seven right-click "run as administrator"

Click on the magnifying glass to start the scan.

Let the tool work, it can take quite a while.

Close ZHPDiag at the end of the analysis.

To send the report click on this link:

    http://pjjoint.malekal.com/

    https://www.cjoint.com/

Click on Browse and look for the directory where ZHPDiag is installed (usually C:\Program Files\ZHPDiag).

    Select the ZHPDiag.txt file.

Click on "Click here to upload the file".

    A link in this form:

    http://www.cijoint.fr/cjlink.php?file=cj200905/cijSKAP5fU.txt

will be added to the page.

Copy this link in your reply.

    Thank you

    See you
