Firefox is already running but not responding Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,

Here is my issue with Firefox, and I don't think I'm the only one. When I try to open my browser, I get the message "Firefox is already running but not responding."

I have already followed all the solutions proposed through Mozilla's support for this problem, which seems to be known but keeps recurring. I also notice that I've had this problem since the update to version 18.0.

Has anyone found a solution?

Restart your computer. After the restart, do not try to start Firefox.

Go to the Firefox profile folder:

Click on the Windows Start button and type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the search field at the bottom of the Start menu, without pressing the Enter key. A list of profiles will appear at the top of the Start menu.
Click on the profile with "Default User" in the name to open it.

Delete the parent.lock file.

Hi,   press ctrl+alt+del   click on "task manager"   tab "processes" find "firefox.exe"   click on "end process"   click "ok" if prompted.   close the window and restart firefox.   look at what we've done to the world, look at what we're leaving to our kids.

That's what I do every time. Firefox stays open in the background every time I close it.

In fact, I have already applied everything that is mentioned on this page:

When I create a new profile, it works for a while and then starts blocking again. I really don't see what is causing this.

Here you go, cleanup and reinstallation are done. It's working normally, but that was already the case every time I created a new profile. It works for a while, then, for no apparent reason, it starts to mess up.

So, let's be patient during the test...

Launch Firefox
Tools
Add-ons
Disable one extension at a time and see which one might be causing the problem.

If the problem persists:
Download and install --> MalwareBytes
Run it
Update the product
Run the quick scan
After the scan, click on show results
If positive, check all
Delete the selection.

Post the report in your next message.

Regarding the add-ons, I had already tested by disabling and re-enabling them one by one, there were no issues.

The problem seems to occur randomly for no apparent reason. Here, since I reinstalled Firefox, there are no add-ons that work and I haven't had any problems so far.

Restart AdwCleaner and click on "uninstall"

Reinstall your add-ons one by one and see if there is one causing the problem.

If everything is correct, you can mark the subject as resolved.

For AdwCleaner, it's better to uninstall it since it is updated regularly. Also uninstall the old versions.

Here, Firefox seems to be working normally but I have only reinstalled a minimal number of add-ons.  I think that uninstalling, cleaning, and reinstalling has done some good.  Thanks for the help! ;-)
