Hello,
I installed a car radio in my car and the problem is that the unit stays on permanently even without the ignition, and even when I remove the faceplate, it remains lit. So I have to completely unplug the unit every time. That's why I would like to know how to run a wire after the ignition if someone could give me a simple solution because the garage charges me €50 to fix it.

Hi,
You say it stays on even without the faceplate. What makes you say that? The fact that there is a LED under the faceplate slot? If so, that's normal.
It needs to stay powered to keep the memories, like the radio station settings, or even the time, or the sound settings (treble, bass...).
To connect a car radio correctly, you need a ground. In some cars, the radio antenna plug provides the ground; otherwise, you can find a ground wire in the original wiring. You need a permanent + wire, which is also found in the original wiring, and a + after ignition that you can tap from the cigarette lighter.
To check your wires, you can use what we call a test lamp, a 12V 21W turn signal bulb, to which you solder two electrical wires, one on the bulb's ground and the other on the base (+).
Once your test lamp is made, take the ground wire from your test lamp, wrap it around your ignition key, and put your key in the ignition; this will give you a good ground.
Then turn on the ignition, and with the + wire from your test lamp, go tease the wires of your cigarette lighter (one by one, of course), and when your lamp lights up, it means you are on the + of the cigarette lighter, and at that moment turn off the ignition; if the test lamp goes out, it means you do indeed have a + after ignition on your cigarette lighter.
Of course, the cigarette lighter is just an example; you can do this with all the wires present in your car to help you find another + after ignition.
