Fransat decoder with Astra-oriented satellite dish

Good evening,

I just bought a Fransat decoder and the seller told me it was possible to make it work while keeping the satellite dish on Astra, so without having to switch it to Atlantic Bird 3. However, I just installed it and when I start the settings, I can't change the satellite; it only shows "Atlantic Bird 3" (I'm supposed to be able to change it to Astra to then search for channels), and if I try to search for channels with "Atlantic Bird 3," it says "failed" (which I think is normal since it's not the right orientation).

Is there anyone who knows about this or who has experienced the same problem and could help me?

    Good evening, I'm sorry to tell you this but your dealer is useless and dishonest!
    The Fransat decoder only works on Atlantic Bird because by finding this satellite, it locks onto it and only onto it, and installs the channels.
    So you either point the antenna at Atlantic Bird while keeping the Fransat
    or you keep your antenna on Astra and exchange Fransat for a TNTsat decoder, which only works on Astra.

      A Fransat demodulator works particularly well on AB 3 but also on any other satellite broadcasting clear channels, and sometimes even encrypted channels in Viaccess, such as BIS TV or Canalsat... (e.g. Aston Fransat Diva...)

      For this case, the person wants to receive Fransat and the seller tells him that "it will work on Astra, no need to point at AB3." However, to receive the Fransat package (which is the purpose of Timmy67's purchase), the satellite dish must be oriented towards AB3. (If it's just to watch the clear channels on Astra, buying a Fransat package is pointless; it's enough to buy a free-to-air receiver for €35!)
      Logically: trying to install (first installation of the decoder) a Fransat decoder with its card while pointing at Astra: no channels! "Failure" (the decoder did not lock onto the downloading stream specific to the Fransat package and only broadcasts via the AB3 satellite) QED.

      6/12/2011 I bought a Fransat decoder since we were on Bird and didn't want to go back up on the roof, but we forgot to unplug the old one on another TV (on the same satellite feed) so it was impossible to load the channels. As soon as we found the problem, there were no issues.

      still unfounded claims, wrongly asserting that a Fransat box only works on Atlantic Bird 3, which is completely false!

      A "true pro" managing a well-known specialized shop firmly denies this; you can add any type of antenna configuration, even a motorized one, for example, for Aston Fransat terminals with Diseqc 1.2. Moreover, if you receive Hot-Bird, it is possible to access the Bis Télé bouquet on a Fransat, etc...

      To return to the initial question, if you connect a Fransat demodulator to a dish receiving Astra 1, you will get all its many channels in the clear, especially foreign ones, a few French ones, but not the rest of the encrypted channels in the TNTsat offer. If you add another dish or an LNB to the existing dish, around 80 cm, along with a Diseqc switch, you will be able to watch the entire encrypted Fransat offer and other channels in the clear on Atlantic Bird 3 + clear offer on Astra.

      Hello, let's not lose sight of the case of timmy67: he just bought a fransat decoder, so he wants to receive TNT channels via Atlantic Bird, but his satellite dish is aimed at Astra. The seller assures him that it will work on that satellite anyway: NO! He will not receive the 'fransat' TNT offer (the reason he bought this decoder is to receive TNT channels via satellite). He can, of course, receive clear channels from Astra, but buying a fransat package just to end up using the fransat decoder as a free-to-air receiver (€35):??????!!!!!!!!: the seller did not do his job! Or maybe he wanted to charge him for a dish realignment?????
