Hello Having difficulties with hertzian reception, I decided to switch to satellite reception. Everything is in the title "How to align both Astra and Hotbird". Here is my equipment: A Strong Slimsat SA62 satellite dish (twin LNB with two outputs) A Humax TN5000HD SAT receiver that can manage multiple satellites (DiSEqC 1.1) I won't hide that this is the first time I install a dish. I have done my research on aligning for a single satellite, but for aligning two, I have seen a lot of explanations that are very specific to the equipment itself, or maybe I just didn't understand well. So to align my dish, should I find a common pointing and which one?? Or should I align on just one and the fact that they are close would be enough?? Can someone help me, I warn you I am a novice in this field but I catch on quickly? Thank you in advance.

Actually, you need to go online and see where you live, the parameters for the tilt and direction of the first LNB
for instance if Astra is to the right of Hotbird, you place the LNB to the right on Astra with the coordinates you received from the internet.
I first set my first LNB with the tilt, then used a compass facing south, and then I set the precise direction. The second one, the left, should automatically be on Hotbird.

I understand what you're saying, the antenna is equipped with two heads and two outputs, I know that the second output will be used for another receiver.

My question to rephrase is: what is the procedure to adjust the antenna to the two satellites?

Hello, I just ordered the same flat satellite dish as yours online. It's the only product I found for 100 euros with two inputs. A bit pricey for a dish. This is the first time I'm going to install a dish at home. My question is, like you, were you able to receive Astra and Hotbird with this flat dish please? Best regards.

There is no such thing as a "flat dish" satellite antenna!!!

It's either a parabolic dish, which is understandably concave, with an arm (bracket), or it's a planar antenna (e.g. Selfsat, Neovia), which has a flat appearance!!!

A flat antenna with 2 heads doesn't exist either... what exists is a flat monosat, e.g. only for Astra 1, with an integrated head and 1, 2, or 4 outputs....

If you want to receive 2 satellites, including Astra 1, with discreet flat antennas, you would need 2, but since flat antennas do not provide satisfactory results on Hot Bird, it's pointless...

It's a calculation to be made apparently, the 2 heads shifted or not at 6 degrees, so if I pointed to Astra 28.2 +6 at 33 degrees and it's Eutelsat 33. Is that the calculation?

If you have at least an 80 cm diameter, I recommend pointing to Hotbird, Astra being more powerful, it shouldn't be a problem.
Standing in front of the antenna, the free LNB for Astra is on the left.

No, the opposite in your book, you'll see that you need to point to the center when you have two heads. When you aim at the center, you get both because if you don't, you're aiming at Astra with your first dish, and Hotbird is far to the second. That's my case. What I did is the first dish on the left is Hotbird, Astra is on the left, but my second dish is on the right. You understand? For me, it's from right to left: Hotbird 13 degrees to the beginning, Astra 19 understand!!!

The antenna installers do not use this solution, they always point the dish at Hot-Bird and shift the Astra head to the west side of the dish's axis since this satellite is further east....

Left? Right? But from the front or the back of the dish? That changes things... oh dear!!

So point Hotbird at 13.1, the second one is on the right, it will not be pointed at Astra since Astra is after Hotbird starting from East at 180 degrees, so going from right to left and not the other way around. If I go from left to right, it’s 19 degrees, so Astra is the second one, Hotbird is the offset one.

As I mentioned at the beginning, the antenna is a Strong Slimsat SA62 with two built-in LNBs to connect two receivers.

Example of what is indicated in the Humax TN5000HD user manual

DiSEqC 1.0
- Possibility to connect up to 4 satellites.
- Select the DiSEqC switch number: 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4.
- You need to know which DiSEqC number your satellite is connected to.

DiSEqC 1.1
- Possibility to connect up to 64 satellites.

DiSEqC 1.1
"Committed" switch 1~4, disable
"Uncommitted" switch 1~16, disable
- Set the numbers for the "committed" and "uncommitted" switches.

According to the instructions in the manual, which switch should I buy

The Slimsat antenna (in fact, it is a Selfsat, 33.7 dBi) does not have 2 integrated heads, but only 1 with 2 outputs = 2 terminals. To switch between 2 antennas (actually their heads), the Diseqc 1.0 level is sufficient (via Diseqc 1.0 switch), selection menu, 1/4 or "A" and 2/4 or "B" according to the demodulator. (See the typical diagram for 2 heads)

As already mentioned, a single flat antenna is not enough to receive both Astra and Hot-Bird since flat antennas are compatible with HD signals from Astra but incompatible with those from Hot-Bird. (See technical explanations on modulations in specialized satellite websites/forums)

That is why we use a parabolic-type antenna (=/=> 38 dBi) 19 + 13° to simultaneously receive these 2 satellites.

A discrete flat antenna (52 x 28 cm) is just enough for Astra 1; you did well to turn it around...

If you choose the practical solution of the dual-output monoblock LNB 6° Diseqc (which comes in 1, 2, or 4 outputs....), you must strictly follow the specific instructions from the manufacturers who recommend either an 80 cm or 85 cm dish, exclusively, for a standard focal/diameter ratio of 0.6 (this is the curvature of the reflector)

If you take a smaller or larger dish, the return angle (called reflected) will no longer occur at the center of the offset feed of Astra from the monoblock, and you will therefore lose signal.

Since Selfsat offers its square flat version for 2 satellites at 6° H50M (Mixed), it captures Astra 1 + Hot-Bird in 1, 2, or 4 outputs... (with restrictions for certain transponders at 13°). Those who use a multisat antenna (bisat) to follow Canalsat or Canal + from a Canal Ready decoder must check that the model used is compatible with the new decryption system implemented in 2017. Many models like the aforementioned Humax TN decoder will be incompatible with Canalsat with just the card 39, but will retain their compatibility with the Tntsat card.

( No changes for "Le Cube" rental, but non-Diseqc = monosat)
