Hi,

At my place (on 2003), it's unchecked,
and the anchor remains visible as long as I have the paragraph marks displayed (the toggle with shift+ctrl+8).

So I looked more closely at the 'view' tab, in the 'format marks' you need to uncheck 'All' and only check the ones you want to see.

And you are right Eric...

The "all" option unchecked is enough to hide everything, marks and anchor.
And if this "all" option is unchecked, and we only want to hide or show the anchor, that's when we can use the "object anchoring" option.

Thank you to everyone who tried to help me.
The problem remains unsolved. Initially, a PDF file (2002 on W. XP) was converted to Word. But I am stuck on my edits due to the presence of this symbol (a "real" small anchor) which I suppose prevents any modifications?
In any case, thank you all, that's nice!

Are you sure that it's really text and not a scanned image (like a photo)?

Yes, it is indeed text. Some parts, like the titles, are surrounded by slashes. In short, I need a super secretary training! I just want to remove all the formatting (including the famous anchor) and clean everything up nicely. What a hassle! Thanks anyway, and have an excellent weekend.

You can remove it, as well as all the paragraph marks etc...
shift+ctrl+8 or the 'show/hide' tool

Hello

An anchor that appears in the top left corner of each page:
It is the indicator of a shape or a text box with wrapping inserted on each page.

A right click on the text box / Format / Wrap tab and hit align with text

Otherwise, it may not be an anchor but another formatting mark that nenette calls an anchor

I looked at your document, and as I expected, it is indeed made up of text boxes.

Recovering it would require a hell of a lot of work for a mediocre result.
Because if there were only a few text boxes, it would be doable, but there are a ton of them, very small ones, many overlapping, and if you look at the table on the last page, it's complete nonsense.

Personally, I would rather start from the original PDF to extract continuous text using the Imaging app from Office.

Send me the PDF if you want me to take a look.

It's nice of you, thank you Marina, but the original PDF is very large (50 pages). In general, what is the best way to convert a PDF to Word (I mean to have the least trouble)? I will look into Imaging, which I don’t know. Thanks anyway for the help given.

If it's text, you just need to copy the text and paste it.
You can also very well save it as text. That will be simpler.

Congratulations on the tutorial. It's simple and clear, well done! I immediately tried it with the original PDF. Everything went smoothly... until the localization of imaging. I can't find it (I do have a valid license). What a drag!

From the beginning, I believe you haven't told us which version of Office you have...
And bad news, MODI has disappeared from Office 2010!
Here is the solution proposed by Microsoft:

Another solution is to go through OneNote: you insert the image, then right-click and choose "Copy Text from Picture" which you will then paste into Word.

Of course, all these manipulations will give you plain text that needs to be reformatted in Word afterwards, but there won't be any frame!

Clearly, your text is made up of text boxes (or drawings...). As Argitxu mentioned, the anchor shows that they are objects with wrapping.

What a nice mess!! :)))
How did you do that: it depends on how the source file is, how you scanned it...
Except for the first page, which is an image, all the text is in a multitude of text boxes. On pages 8 and 9, all the text boxes overlap.

But you can do this.
You are using Word 2002

First, open a new blank document

Then on your current document,
- Ctrl A to select all
- Ctrl C to copy
On the blank document, Edit Paste Special / Unformatted text

All the text boxes disappear and the text is raw.

You can improve it by removing all the end-of-line paragraphs.
- Select the text of each paragraph, then Ctrl + H to replace
- In Find, enter ^p
- In Replace, enter a space
- Replace all

And you can format it as you like
