The IP of an online purchase

Hello,

Well, it's a bit complicated to explain. I wanted to know if a bank could know where an online purchase comes from. Like if the purchase is made on a computer, can they retrieve the IP address of the computer? Sorry if I didn't express myself well, it's a bit hard to explain =/

Thanks :D

The bank can normally retrieve the IP address used when connecting to their site during the purchase (and they do this for security reasons in case of dispute). In the event of a complaint, the bank will request to locate the owner of this IP at the time of the purchase in question.

The bank can obtain the address, it's not a problem.

To compare, only the Internet service provider can identify a person via an address, and they only do so if they are required to (a complaint that goes far enough, etc..)

      Otherwise, it's not possible.

The access provider? But the computer hasn't been turned off since this afternoon, so the IP hasn't changed? Since the purchase was made this morning at 5:05 AM. If the bank retrieves the IP, I just need to compare it to the one I have, right?

In fact, the IP recorded by the bank is the IP of your internet box, not of the computer at home. However, the bank may have also recorded information such as the name of the computer, the browser used, the OS, etc...

If you don't know where to find the name of the computer or the IP of the box, let us know which OS is used on the computer as well as the name of your ISP and we will tell you where to look ;)
