Function fn+f9 no longer works Solved

Hello,

I have an Asus X72J laptop running Windows 7, and for the past two days I've had a small problem: the FN + F9 key combination (which is used to disable the touchpad) no longer works. However, all the other FN+ shortcuts work perfectly fine. At work, I keep the touchpad active, but at home I prefer to plug in my USB mouse for convenience. If anyone has a solution to reactivate this combination,

Hello, I had the same problem and I finally solved it. I had sent an email to Asus and they told me I needed to install ASUS SMART GESTURE. You open the Windows window on your keyboard, then click on ASUS, then on ASUS INSTALL, and then install ASUS SMART GESTURE. Restart your computer once or several times (I don’t know why, but it restarted 3 times) and then it works.

Hello,
Have you tried reinstalling the ACTK100 ACPI drivers using the Utility CD provided by Asus?

If not, try going to Start, Control Panel
click on the Hardware and Sound tab, then Device Manager.
A window will open with the devices.
Click on Mice and other pointing devices, then click on PS/2 compatible mouse.
Another page will open, go to Driver and then Update Driver.
Another window will pop up, click on Browse my computer for driver software.
Then close the page and restart the PC and see.

I'm sorry for not responding sooner, but I moved and didn't have internet for fifteen days.
Reinstalling the mouse drivers with the utility CD provided with the PC fixed this little problem. Strange considering I didn't update these drivers at all... Anyway, everything is working well now.

I’m probably a bit late, but I had the same problem for several months on ASUS X72J, without finding someone who could provide a solution (except suggesting to stick tape on the pad). I just resolved my issue.
You need to go to "msconfig", then to the "Startup" tab, check "Elan smart-pad" and restart the PC.
You also need to go to the control panel and in the mouse manager, check the option that disables the smart-pad when the mouse is connected.
The smart-pad is then disabled, and it’s now possible to reactivate and deactivate it as needed by unplugging the mouse and pressing the "Fn" and "F9" keys.

Same problem that I solved by going to the control panel, mouse, finding the touchpad, and there looking for the box "disable if a mouse is connected." Click on Apply and OK.
