Hello,

There are many tools to have virtual printers to print in PDF and XPS (Microsoft's specific format): CutePDF, PDFCreator, etc.

But I am looking for an equivalent tool to generate Word or Excel documents. Does that exist?

If not, are there free tools to convert an XPS file to Word/Excel or a PDF to Word/Excel? Preferably virtual printers.

Thanks in advance

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 5.0

Do you want to generate a Word document from a PDF that was generated from a Word document?

No! I preferably want XPS to Excel or PDF to Excel, but To Word will do as well. So I have a PDF file and an XPS file to convert!

Yes, but these files already come from Word and Excel themselves. The simplest is to copy/paste the content, but you lose all formatting.

I’m trying Nitro PDF Professional, which is a PDF reader with converters to Word and Excel!

The problem is that there’s always an error with the PDF files I test (which were generated from Excel and Word) saying: The file contains non-standard encoding and may not be processed correctly.

And if you generate yourself a test file with the same program, what does it say?

Honestly, aren’t there tools like PDFCreator that do “Print to Excel/Word”?

Not to my knowledge. The idea of the PDF is not to be “reconverted” into its original format.

Thank you Bruce, I have a serious problem so since the application I designed can only generate an XPS and the client wants Excel and also Word outputs. I was talking about PDF because of course I could print to PDF with PDFCreator!

Your app would not be able to generate a CSV file that you can then import into Excel? How does the XPS generation work? Do you first go through a "classic" file that you submit to MS's XPS printer? If so, try to intercept that one and import it into Word/Excel?
