Hello,

You need to add the file extension to be able to read it.
Is it a photo, a document, a video, a pdf, ...?

Then what?

Do as proposed in message 3 --> display tab, uncheck: hide extensions for known file types, apply and OK.

Hello,

Go to the control panel, folder options, view tab, uncheck: hide extensions for known file types, apply and OK.

What is an extension?

Hello,

I am running Windows Vista, but I don't have the folder options section in my control panel, so I don't understand what you mean by extension.

Go to appearance and personalization, folder options.

Add .doc at the end of the file if it is a Word document.

Already when opening the file, it tells me unknown file type. I've tried with Adobe Flash, Works, etc. and it doesn't open.
In properties (it's a document), file type: file, description: ATT0001.

Ask your interlocutor what type of document they tried to send you and what format it is in!

Did you manage to uncheck: hide extensions for known file types, apply and OK?

After that, you should see the file extension.
