Hello,

I would like to cancel my internet subscription with Wanadoo and I would like to know if it is possible to keep my wanadoo.fr email address after cancellation? Or will they suspend my wanadoo email account?

For Orange, it's quite simple. You just need to open a new low-speed Access account (which we won't use) and then ask the Hotline to release your old email address on your old account. This new email address, however, will be .......@orange.fr but the automatic forwarding from wanadoo>orange works.

What Aranjuez says is true for Wanadoo, but not for all ISPs.
With Free, for example, it is quite possible to keep your address indefinitely, as long as it is in use. It is only after a "certain time" without use that it gets deleted.

The simplest way is to create an email address independent of your ISP.   It avoids problems.  (for example, GMail)

From the moment you cancel a subscription, the address no longer exists (except at Free, which retains it if you continue to use it). To avoid the problem of no longer being able to retrieve your emails from the deleted address, before you cancel next time, consider redirecting them to a dummy address that you will have created beforehand (e.g., on Gmail or Yopmail where all addresses already exist by default). Same for me, after cancelling my Orange subscription I no longer have access to my old address and I can't recreate it through another Orange account. Does anyone know if there is a timeframe before addresses are reallocated, and if it is possible to make an appeal because the damage is professional "address used for 6 years since the business was created."

You should not cancel your Orange subscription, but rather ask to convert it to a "free access" account. This way, you will no longer pay a subscription, and you will no longer have ADSL managed by Orange, but your account and your email addresses will still exist.

You can easily recover your old email address from a closed account with Orange, as long as you are still with Orange and have a new account. Just call 3900 (sorry, it's mandatory ;-)) and ask for the unblocking of your old email address.

As for the old wanadoo addresses, they will be renamed to orange.fr. The Orange servers will handle the redirection if someone sends you an email without replacing wanadoo.fr with orange.fr, but it’s better to inform your contacts.

You should allow about 1 week for the unblocking, and then you will have 6 months to take back ownership of this email address (that's up to you to do).

I canceled my Orange/internet line and moved in with my friend who is subscribed to France Télécom + Orange / internet + Orange mobile. The day after canceling my France Télécom line, and after informing them of my move to a France Télécom/Orange subscriber, my wanadoo email address became inaccessible. I've been calling every day for the past 15 days and I'm being shuffled from sales to technical support, hearing different things every time, being promised that it will work tomorrow, that my mailbox will be reopened for free access, then that it's not possible, that I will keep my emails and then that they will all be deleted, that I should have stayed a customer, that it will be done tomorrow, that they'll call me back tomorrow, etc. I AM COMPLETELY CRACKING UP, all my job search contacts are lost, my address was the one given to the ANPE, Assedic, responses to job postings, spontaneous job applications, organizations for starting a business, etc, etc... Without any warning or notice, France Telecom / Orange cuts off your email address and you are faced with insurmountable problems. I wrote to the CEO of France Télécom, the telecommunications regulatory authority, "UFC Que Choisir", and the supervising minister to denounce this attitude that plunges people into serious difficulties. The result for France Télécom / Orange will be yet again very bad publicity and of course fewer clients (starting with my friend who is going to cancel this week: her France Télécom landline + her Orange/internet line + her Orange mobile). I'm in the same situation as you. A free access has been closed for dubious reasons. No one at Orange is able to provide me with a logical explanation.

The only solution is to request an unblocking of the email address. And that’s where it gets complicated... The tech team refuses to do it, saying the account needs to be open. On the commercial side, they promise me mountains and wonders that it will be done the next day because we can unblock addresses once the account is definitively closed... Anyway, this story has been dragging on since June...

Anyway, I'm alerting a friend who works as a technical advisor at Orange, and he confirms that we can unblock it as soon as it's closed. However, he informed me that they've been having a technical issue for a few days with the tool for unblocking... Unknown repair time...

The name of the plan is: "Free Access"  With ORANGE, you must write to the Customer Service in Bordeaux and request the change of plan.  Internet access is removed except for messaging access, which is independent with its own credentials. You will receive a bill stating "Offer = Free Access, Price = €0.00" This is a regulatory obligation applicable to all internet service providers (in France). Here is their procedure.
The request to retain the mailboxes must be indicated in the cancellation letter.

Otherwise, with Orange, the cancellation of the contract also cuts off access to the webmail on the contract end date.
