Hello,
So Nicko94, if your question is silly, I'm silly too because I've been wondering about it as well.
I purchased a little ZICPLAY V-Max 512 MB player yesterday, since it arrived at home..., it's plugged into an adapter, and all I see is a useless gauge moving on the screen!!! (sorry, it's frustrating...) that doesn't fill up by a micro millimeter (grrr), so yes, I can listen to FM radio but only when it's plugged into the adapter and yes, since it doesn't charge when unplugged, it's useless!!, so yes, I wondered at that moment ON or OFF, the manual is USELESS I'm not going to keep it I'm going to take it back to the store as soon as possible, either this afternoon...
PS: at the same time, I understood that other players of this same brand often come back to the store...

Hello, you will find my message from yesterday a little lower in the forum. I have exactly the same problem as mentioned, except that I tried 4: I bought 2 at FNAC, which I exchanged for 2 new ones, and I have the same problem with all four.
If someone could enlighten us, thank you.

Hello, I’m not experiencing any loading issues with my Zicplay V-Max (512 mb + FM), it’s true that the manual is extremely brief. Have you plugged the USB cable into the power socket adapter?
It’s hard to explain like this, but there are two ways to charge the VMax, either by connecting the USB cable to the USB port of the computer, or by plugging the USB end into the power adapter. During charging, the charging icon increases gradually.
I find this player really beautiful, ergonomic, lightweight, and very high-performing in terms of sound and functions. However, I was surprised that I could only load 70 WMA songs into my player when I could normally fit about 250-300! Maybe my WMA files are too large and I should use MP3s instead?! It’s a bit frustrating, has anyone else had this issue?

The answers to find out how to charge and how to turn on the MP3 player are below in the forum
thanks to the one who found it
you had to think about it
press and hold play for 2 seconds after turning it on
and to charge the battery, you need to turn on the player and plug it
into the mains, and if the battery has a white bar with a red line, it means it is charging
they don't know what to invent!
and even the sellers aren't even aware!

Hello,
I just got the Vmax 512mb Fm (yesterday, to be exact!!) and I don't know how to charge it!
I plugged the player into the power outlet, but nothing (apparently..) since the gauge hasn't changed color!
I left it charging all night!
A question that might sound silly...
Should I charge the player when it's On or Off?
Otherwise, it's very nice, indeed. The little annoying thing is the buttons on the sides, they're not obvious!
It would have been more practical on the front!
That's all!!

I also bought the same model with 512 MB, and I didn't encounter any problems with charging, I find it quite easy to use: it took me about 20 minutes to understand how it works.
Try turning on the MP3 and charging it while it's on... I just tried to charge it while it was off and indeed IT DOESN'T WORK.
I hope this helps you :)

Hello,
Well, I connected it in both OFF and ON modes, tried everything, so I probably just ended up with one of the readers that wasn’t working properly. I must admit that after this, I have no desire to get another one...

Hello,
My sister was given a Zicplay Vmax 256MB+FM MP3 player today. Once I took the device out of its box, I decided to charge it for about 3 hours before unplugging it, and then, surprise, I couldn’t turn it on. So, I plugged it back in, and then magic, it turned on. Once it was on, I unplugged it, and there was no problem; it stayed on. Unless I want to carry my computer everywhere to start my player, I would like to have a solution and know if this has happened to you before!
Thank you for your reply!!

It's normal, when you turn it on, the battery lights up and the Zic Play logo appears before turning off. You then need to press the play button for a few seconds, and finally it will turn on for good. It's as if it automatically goes into standby after being turned on. In any case, it works for me, you just have to try it.
Hi all!!
Well, it's exactly the same problem I had with this player, you can read my testimony above, I preferred to return it permanently...

Hi ptitcaille,
I'm not sure if it's the same problem actually, I may have explained myself poorly, because I managed to listen to my music even with the player unplugged, but in order to turn it on, I absolutely have to plug it into the USB, as if the USB was a key that would allow me to start my player. So if I turn off my music player and want to turn it back on, I need a powered USB cable to reboot it.
Thank you for replying to me ptitcaille ; )

Hello!
Well, I just bought the player, and indeed, you need to press and hold the play button for 2 seconds for it to actually turn on!!
Nice manual with just two lines, you had to guess that!
Otherwise, I have a question: how long does it take to fully charge it, and what is your battery life?

Hello, I bought a 1GB VMAX yesterday and I encountered all your problems, plus some more!
I solved everything thanks to you, but I find the bill a bit pricey. I’ll detail all the reasons that make me think I would have been better off buying an iPod.
- The manual, it starts off badly: we end up with four loose sheets explaining that if it doesn't work, it's normal, you have to reformat but in FAT, not FAT32 (did I buy an MP3 player or what kind of object exactly?), and a kind of three-page manual that textually explains (very few images) that we've bought a player with lots of buttons and features.
- No manual for installing the software
- The complete manual on CD => WORD format (not even Write!)
- No instructions for the software or even for the CD
- Even better: we install the software => anti-virus alert (confirmed on DelDrv.EXE in mp3 player tools 3.68 in various places on the net)
- Impossible to upgrade the firmware, the one provided on the CD is not accepted by the device
- No explanation for charging the battery
- No explanation about that infamous PLAY button that you have to hold down when not plugged into the USB of the computer or charger
I don’t know if you agree with me, but when faced with this for a device that cost 80 euros (560 francs), you feel a bit like you've been kicked in the behind.
The lower price compared to competitors, the pretty colors or the design, and the fairly good sound do not justify such disdain towards consumers. Fnac is guilty of negligence, and the manufacturer (let’s say, the assembler) is guilty of indifference.
I’m lucky, I’ve been in IT for 20 years but how can an average consumer have any chance of figuring things out in the face of such a flood of shoddy stuff? When I buy something from Fnac, it’s to pay for the relative trust in the products they select, and that’s exactly where I find myself in a worse situation than with the Taiwanese on Rue Montgallet! At least they stop carrying a model when they have too many problems with it!
Is there any way, do you think, to shake up consumer associations to make things change? The people selling this in its current state deserve both a financial punishment, and to penalize their suppliers, and finally a good kick in the butt.
In any case, I will be sending a similar feedback, polite but firm, to Fnac in the form of a letter, and I hope everyone will do the same. If we don’t protest, they have no way of knowing they’re selling a shoddy product, since obviously they haven’t tested it.

Hello Francis, well listen, I returned it the next day because I already had a hard time deciding to buy it, so after that, I didn't think and went straight to return the little item, that's it. Otherwise, of course before acquiring it, I did inquire with the seller about the brand; he told me that indeed the brand was "crap"—that's my word, sorry, not very nice, but that was it!! So he told me that it wasn't a good brand, but that this one was brand new on the market, and that he hadn't received any feedback yet. So, it's true, I really liked the design of the player, but it was also supposed to work!! Besides its pretty "presentation," I’d rather not even talk about the so-called "manual"; I think I could write a whole page on that, so there you go.
You're absolutely right to show your anger because they are really messing with the customer's head!!

Bonjour !
Hello everyone.
I also gave in to the temptation of the ZicPlay Vmax (512FM) and I'm struggling with this thing!
Here’s a small tip to help swallow the pill.
At the following address: www.neonumeric.com/download.html you can find the new version 4.00 of "MP3 Player Utilities". This resolves installation virus issues as well as firmware update compatibility problems. Additionally, it includes a utility for managing uploads to the MP3.
My current problem is how to ensure that the hologe setting is not lost every time I turn off this device?
If you have found a solution, please let me know!

Hello everyone, I just got the Vmac 512MB as well, and I don't understand how to charge it. I'm using the USB cable. I turn the device on, the battery gauge goes up twice like on laptops, and then the gauge becomes full as if it has been charged, but nothing happens even after hours. It's impossible to turn it on for more than 20 seconds without plugging it into the computer, which is really, really annoying.
Please, if you have the answer
Don't leave me!!!! LOL
Thanks to all.

Hello,
I would like someone to explain how to remove the images that scroll while listening to songs.
Thank you.

Hi Alan!
Yes, I've asked myself this question too because the manual is not great.
So, after a few attempts with my player, I finally succeeded!
If you want to remove the images:
*** to have a black screen during playback: go to Setup/LCD Set/Black and 5 or 10
*** to have a screen with lower brightness: darkle / 5 or 10
There you go, it worked for me
hoping it works for you too.

Bonjour, je rencontre un problème, mon Zic Play 512 Mo ne s'allume que lorsqu'il est connecté à l'ordinateur.
I have the same problem as you, Dad; it's a common issue for a lot of people. I wonder if it's really a "walkman" lol because the box says "for home and office use only" --> maybe it's for people who prefer watching movies on a small screen rather than on a computer screen...

Hello everyone!
I also have a problem (yes, another one)!
I have a Zicplay V-Max 1GB FM that I bought in July 2006, and a problem appeared after a few months: the black paint has chipped.
I would like to know if this problem has happened to anyone.
I NEVER PUT THE PLAYER IN MY POCKET.
PS: I can't get the "Lyrics" function to work.
Thank you for your help.

Hi, this happened to me too.
But I have a more serious problem: I lost the USB cable for my Vmax...
Do you know where I can get the cable or do you know its references? Thank you.

I have a 1GB Vmax player for over a year... and yes, but I had to return the first one after a month....
My problem is the following: I can't turn it on anymore. The battery is full since the charge light is green.... but nothing at all; power ON and long press on the play button does nothing...
Is there a "reboot" button or something because I can't format it or anything on my computer since it's turned off....
As for the paint, mine was black and now it's metallic gray.... the first one was the same but they thought I was a MP3 killer at FNAC when I said there was a problem with their paint...

Hi,
I'm relieved to see that I'm not alone with the painting situation.
For your problem, I had almost the same issue three weeks ago; I plugged it into the computer and then couldn't turn it back on... so I went to the store and they changed the USB cable for me, and since then it's been working.
Try with another cord or go to the store...
