Hello, I would like to know if there is software available on Linux that can do this:
When my camera, a Canon EOS 300D, is connected via USB, I would like to be able to take a photo so that it appears directly on my PC, without going through the camera’s SD card. I have seen this done in photography studios, but I would like to know if a Linux solution exists.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Configuration: Red Hat Linux
Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 (1g GDDR5)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (overclocked to 3GHz)
MSI P35 Neo
550W Corsair Power Supply
2GB DDR2 RAM
19" LCD Screen

To use it, I know that Canon DPP works under Wine.
But I haven't tested the direct shooting feature... in fact, I wonder if it's even in DPP... -
Thank you for your responses
@gm: I can't find this software, could you send me the link?
@matser1973: I am currently using Ubuntu 11.04, and what I'm looking for is a program that displays the photo as soon as it's taken, like at a photographer's.

I know very well that a sudo apt-get install installs the software along with its dependencies, and I had already installed wine, I just wanted you to give me the link to Canon DPP.

Not too hard to find after all!!

Except that DPP does not allow direct viewing of the image. DPP is just a raw converter.
EOS Utility does allow it, but with an EOS 300D, I'm not sure.

Hi,
which Linux distribution are you using?
You have the gphoto2 command-line program that allows you to transfer photos to the hard drive.
Let us know how it goes...
