Hi

I would like to know if it's possible to watch TV, like with Winamp on Windows, which offers the ability to watch TV through a library.

Thanks again and see you later!

Watch TV on Linux without a TV card possible?
Aside from streaming TV, I don't think it's possible.
Winamp used to have a list of streamed channels. Knowing the names of the channels, you should be able to find the corresponding stream via Google.
An example: the channel nt1 (TNT) offers on its site to watch nt1 in streaming. For that, you need to have the mplayer plugin (or another one like VLC or Kaffeine) and the codecs installed to be able to view TV. Personally, I copy the stream with the mplayer plugin that I open with Kaffeine or mplayer. You can then create a playlist of channels that you can watch directly with Kaffeine, mplayer, or another, without going through the site.
Beware, not all channels offer streaming for free; some don't offer it at all.

As for streaming, radios are more advanced. Similarly, you go to the radio's website, start the streaming (live listening), and copy the stream in Amarok for example (you need to configure Amarok with the xine engine) and you can create a playlist this way.

You can try the TVonline site which offers TV and radio streaming. (Internet access required) but it is not guaranteed to work on Linux since it is designed for Windows Media Player.

Oops, I answered the wrong question in my last post, I didn't see that it was without a TV card. There might be an equivalent to xmms if it exists with Winamp...

who reads streaming but on linux?

In the case of videos not embedded in a flash player: vlc, mplayer, kaffeine all work. For mplayer and kaffeine, there is direct integration in Mozilla browsers (firefox, iceape, iceweasel, ...) which installs through your package manager. The choice of the player used is configured in your browser. On debian (and I imagine ubuntu) these are for example the packages kaffeine-mozilla and mozilla-mplayer and mozilla-plugin-vlc.

In the case of youtube, dailymotion, these are videos embedded in a flash player, so you need to install the flash plugin for your browser. Again for mozilla, it just involves installing a package. Generally, when the site is well done, it specifies to the browser where to look for the plugin in question (like for example http://www.nainwak.com/)

In any case, if it can reassure you, I have never had a problem streaming a video on linux.

    Good luck

    Hello,

Xawtv is not in the package manager?
yum install xawtv - doesn't it install for you?

You're actually trying to compile it, but you don't have the compiler. I don't know much about Fedora, but I think yum install gcc should install a compiler, but you'll certainly have some dependencies. The simplest thing, if you're new to Linux, is to look for a pre-built package for your distribution.

    Have a nice evening.

Yes, with Zattoo TV, with my internet subscription, it's free in HD, but you have everything and don't need any gadgets, just an internet connection + Zattoo TV. Linux and Windows, it's a delight, there are all the French channels and this TV adapts to the country.
    I'm in Switzerland, I have all the main cable channels, FR 1 2 3 4 5, Swiss 1 and 2, M6, Arte, it's great.

Yes, for example with kdetv or xawtv. If it doesn't find your TV card, it's probably because your kernel currently doesn't support your TV card (you need to add i2c, v4l, the TV tuner driver...).

Be careful, I'd better tell you right away, getting TV to work under Linux is quite complex (personally, when my image is too large, I get a green bar on the right side, and I still haven't figured out why! A word to the wise... ;) )

For the remote control, if you have one, you will need to install lirc.

    Good luck.

Hello, I am new to Fedora. I have a TV card that I bought for Pinnacle TV. When switching to Fedora, I wanted to install Xawtv or Tvtime, but I always encounter the same error when I run the command ./configure

    [ejoinel@localhost ~]$ cd xawtv-3.95/
    [ejoinel@localhost xawtv-3.95]$ ./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-motif
    checking for gcc... no
    checking for cc... no
    checking for cc... no
    checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
    See `config.log' for more details.

    I need help. Thank you.

But I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it’s necessary to have Windows Media Player. I’m not knowledgeable in this area, but I plan to switch to Linux and I was wondering if, when you want to watch a video in streaming that normally plays under Windows, it’s Windows Media Player that plays the streaming, but in Linux? If we have downloaded VLC Media Player for example, is it VLC Media Player that plays the streaming? Or another player? For YouTube for example, there’s a neutral player so you can watch without any problems, but here I don’t know who could answer my question?

Under Linux, you have plugins similar to those for Windows Media Player.
Instead of Windows Media Player, the plugin is based on VLC, Kaffeine, Totem, or even MPlayer (and others).
So we have several plugins available: only one installed is sufficient.

Furthermore, Firefox has the Media Player Connectivity extension that allows you to launch a video to any player.
