Nintendo 64 no image just sound

Hello to all the nostalgic gamers and the others :)
So, I bought a Nintendo 64 earlier. I went back home (1) and tested it. The flat full HD screen didn't work, no sound or image. Then on an older TV, I only had sound. And on another TV, both image and sound worked perfectly.
Back at my real home (2), I connected it to a small flat screen TV and there, just the sound.
Please help me, I know it works :))

Thanks in advance,

Nbabyface

Hello Nbabyface :)

A nostalgia for real video games, it’s nice to see (emulation, Wii Virtual Console, Xbox 360 or PS3 store = not retro gaming :p).

Like you, I finally gave in today and bought a second-hand N64 on my way home from work, complete with cables, a Ram-pack (I was really happy about that), and one controller that I had to take apart to fix the analog stick, along with Zelda Ocarina of Time, 1080 Snowboarding, and F1 World Grand Prix (all for €44.90).

When I got home, I plugged it directly into my CRT TV (not on the LCD, it won't work via SCART, you need an RGB cable and to switch the console to RGB mode) after properly blowing the cartridge and the N64 port, and then came the disappointment (bordering on disaster): sound, no picture...

I fiddled a bit with the SCART connector, and actually by plugging it in lightly while putting a little weight on the cable, the connection works properly and I got sound + picture :)

Apparently, the pins on the SCART connector are too thin, and the contact is therefore insufficient for the TV to receive the picture signal. A quick phone call to the seller, he asked me if I had some solder and a soldering iron to slightly thicken the pins for better contact. Given my somewhat cold reaction, he agreed to exchange the cable for a new one for free starting tomorrow ^^

You might want to try thickening the pins with solder then, or buy a new cable; they can still be found relatively easily online or in second-hand specialty stores (mega games, Addict, or any store like Cash Converter or Eurocash).

Hoping that I could help you, I wish you to solve the problem quickly and have fun with your N64 ;)

Personally, I'm still looking for a NES in good working condition, the N64 isn't compatible with NES cartridges xD

Glad I could help you :)

A little extra info: a Game Cube SCART cable will do the trick perfectly; that's what I got new this afternoon and I finally got to start Ocarina of Time <3

It's also the same connector as for a Super NES, but an original Super NES cable doesn't seem to work, apparently.

Anyway, it seems the venerable Mojo Tree wants to see me, have a good evening!

Great :)

Have fun playing ;)

Oh, and if your N64 controller is experiencing issues with the analog stick, a French online store (Atlas Game Shop) sells just the joystick itself for about twelve euros, and it's very easy to replace.

So if you don't want an unofficial controller and yours starts to malfunction, it's a solution I really appreciated ^^

They also sell unofficial controllers, memory cards, and RAM packs at reasonable prices, as well as a few games.

Well, I'm still looking for a NES in good working condition to replay Solstice and Gremlins 2...

Have a nice evening :)
