Hello,
I am trying to erase, destroy, remove this µ¤%§$! virtual CD from my freshly purchased Iomega eGo 2.5 1TB USB3.
My goal: to reformat my hard drive to FAT32 on a SINGLE partition!
My Config: XP SP3 Pro USB 2.0
So, here is what I have found over the past two days; I downloaded the "Iomega Encryption Setup 1.3", apparently the only solution to get rid of the virtual CD. After installation, there is an option you can check to permanently remove that damned virtual CD and its Iomega Encryption program.
Cool! I checked in "My Computer" and indeed the Virtual CD no longer appears in the list of devices.
Then, I searched for solutions to format in FAT32. What I found:
Iomega FAT32 Formatter: the software crashes on startup when my hard drive is connected, and when it is not connected, the software launches normally but my hard drive is not recognized after connection.
swissknife 3.22: Hard drive not recognized
Fat32Formatter 1.0: after configuration, I click on "Format!" and then several error messages (in order):
1) Incorrect parameter.
2) FAT32WriteBootSector#WriteFile1 Failed
3) FAT32WriteBootSector() failed!
4) Error in StartFormat
5) Failed to format partition!
The hard drive was delivered formatted for MAC; after all these failures, I decided to format it to NTFS (which works) quickly but it does not change anything when trying to reformat to FAT32, the same problems as specified above.
Also, after a quick format in NTFS, 93.6MB of space is used!
... which makes me think that the Virtual CD has not (or only partially) been erased. Maybe only the encryption program has been deleted along with the access path to this virtual disk?
Maybe I need to mess with the MBR?
Maybe I should take someone from Iomega hostage to force the company to make "normal" hard drives, where we have the right and freedom to use the space on our hard drives as we wish???
You’ve understood, I am eagerly awaiting your responses. I hope for a solution or at least a better understanding of this problem.
Thank you for considering my request.
P.S. this is not a FAT32/NTFS comparison (it's known that FAT32 cannot format when >32GB in Windows ETC.....)
Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.6.16 default

I found this on the Iomega website... to be tested tonight
it's irreversible!

I tried it, it works, it deletes the hidden partition that contains the virtual CD.-

I downloaded the update, but when I install it, only the window with the 4 software settings appears and not the one with the new options (hide, delete,...) even though I properly uninstalled the old version, and I also launched the new one from the computer, not from the disk. Antivirus off, rebooted, tried on another PC (but still on Vista): nothing works, I don't have the options window displaying... what should I do?

It did the same thing to me, but in fact the old version was not completely uninstalled (it was noticeable by the software version number which should have been 1.3).
If it’s the right version number, you should try encrypting the disk or decrypting it to see if the option appears along the way. (I don't remember exactly where the option was located)

Hi.
Have you tried doing a "clean" with diskpart?

Hello... it's a shame to want to do without data encryption when it's, in my opinion, the main purpose of this drive.
To (try to) address your issue, try this:
-- "Start"
-- "Settings"
-- "Control Panel"
-- "Administrative Tools"
-- "Computer Management"
-- (expand) "Storage"
-- (expand) "Disk Management"
there, you should see among other things the partition(s) corresponding to your IOMéga drive.
By using the "Disk Management" tool you should be able to "Unmount" the partitions of the IOMéga and then remount one as a single block, activate it and then format it (still via the tool) as a single block. And also assign a drive letter, if you want.
What does that give?

@Vincat > There is encryption and encryption, honestly too much cold sweat with this software to continue using it (software that no longer detects the hard drive when plugged in overnight while it works perfectly well, among other things). Honestly, I advise all users against encrypting their hard drive with this software. Too many bugs and, for my part, more than a hassle, even after formatting, to decrypt the data.

hello, I'm also in that case...
this virtual CD mounts itself, in my opinion it is installed by the controller so it cannot be deleted as a partition.
I'll check with diskpart but I don't think that will solve the issue
EDIT: diskpart cannot do anything... option to disable maybe via an iomega software -
Hello, I can't remove Iomega Encryption from my newly purchased Iomega eGo portable hard drive either. How can I do that?
My setup: Vista and Firefox
Thanks in advance.-
