CD/DVD/CD RW/DVD RW Player Repair Solved

Question

Hello Everyone
I have a player that reads CDs, CD-RWs, DVDs, and DVD-RWs, and all of a sudden it can't detect CDs or anything else. I dismantled it and looked at the lens, which I cleaned, but nothing works. When I put an audio CD in, it spins and then shuts off, and a message tells me to insert a disk, even though it's inside. (I suspect the lens is misaligned.) I would like to know how a player reads a CD, meaning from the inside to the outside or from the outside to the inside.
If someone could help me, that would be very kind.

here is how I can help you, you need to follow this:

if your player no longer reads CDs, read carefully what to do:

1- disassemble it.
2- plug it in and turn it on.
3- insert a CD to see if it spins or not.
4- if it does not spin, clean the lens with a cotton swab using 70 or 90% alcohol (when the device is turned off).
5- if it spins and then stops, that means the lens is not broken but it needs to be cleaned just like in step 4, except instead of alcohol you use water.

if all this doesn’t work, that’s very bad news, your lens is dead so your player is broken.

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem: it doesn't recognize either the CD or the CD-ROM.
In the properties, nothing seems abnormal.
Restoration was done a few days before, but it still doesn't work.
No boot is possible even at startup.

Cher GilMus, il faut enlever le boîtier de ton LCD, mettre un CD-ROM et cliquer deux fois sur l'icône du CD. Si la lentille est bonne, tu la vois s'allumer et se déplacer sur le CD-ROM. Il s'agit donc d'un problème de vitesse (réglage). Si elle ne s'allume pas, il vaut mieux en acheter un autre...

If the lens is no longer working, it can be replaced; you just need to note its reference and buy a new one that doesn't cost much. I had the same problem and changed it myself; it's very easy to do. Good luck!

doesn't read anything on the DVD disc. It opens a blank window as if there’s nothing on the DVD, it doesn't even display the name of the DVD next to its icon in "My Computer." I disassembled and reassembled it: nothing,

I looked for drivers to reinstall it and the problem persists. When I right-click on properties, it crashes explorer.exe for 10 seconds!

I have roughly the same problem because my DVD-RW CD-RW player sometimes works, sometimes it only reads DVDs, sometimes CDs, and sometimes nothing at all. What should I do???  Please help me.

Hello,
I have a problem with my DVD player; when I put a DVD in, I can read it, see the folder, but I can't right-click on a video! I don't know how my player got a bug like that, it used to work.
I also have another problem, still with my DVD player, when I put a DVD in (which I take out of my camcorder) it... how can I put this, it "remembers" the old videos from the other DVD I had put in, like on the other DVD there were 6 videos, my player does everything to separate the videos into six! If there are only three videos, it will copy them!
So, do I need to change my player or is there a free solution?

Particular problem: my drive reads everything except audio CDs and crashes the PC when I click on the drive, forcing me to eject the disc. It's a double-layer DVD burner from ACER. I reinstalled Vista but the issue remains. Then I tried with another drive and it works. Do you have a solution? Thank you in advance.

In November 2006, I bought a HP Pavilion dv2104ea laptop running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition. For the past week, my Matshita UJ-850s DVD RAM drive has only been able to read CDs. Error code 1117: Unable to complete the request due to a device E\S error.
Moreover, the Sonic burning software does not detect the drive. In the event viewer, it reports a Device\Cdrom0 error. I have already tried uninstalling the drive in the device manager as well as the controllers, attempted a driver update (no updates available...), I went into the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters keys, flashed the BIOS, cleaned the lens, and gently moved the lens motor several times, restarted in safe mode to identify the issue, reinstalled Windows, but nothing works, I haven’t found a solution in a week, please help me!!!

I have the same problem as you; on a computer without internet, the CD worked, but when I put it in the new computer with internet, it doesn't work. But I have an idea; I will try to make it work on another computer without or with internet.       There are some in there.

I advise you to try all the steps described above and indeed test it on another computer. A foolproof test: insert the Windows XP CD and restart from the CD. If it doesn't start, your drive is like mine: broken! I got another one second-hand and no more issues, lol!

Well, the problem actually comes because my husband plugged in a USB stick with a virus and when we scanned with Avast, the D drive disappeared. Now, when we went into device management, as you advised, we found that there is a yellow exclamation mark next to our DVD-ROM name and the USB device, and even though we tried to do everything you told us, we couldn't manage it. The answer to all your questions;  Disassemble your computer, unplug the power supply, touch a metallic part of the PC (to discharge any remaining static electricity).  Second step: Check where your hard drives are connected. If you have two, check that they are connected with the same series of cables.  Third step: Make sure your CD/DVD drive is not connected to a ribbon cable of the hard drive. If that's the case, follow the BLUE cable coming from your motherboard, unplug all hard drives you encounter if there are any in its path, then connect THE ONLY blue cable to your CD/DVD ROM drive. (Unless you have 2 CD/DVD ROM drives, in which case you would need to use a switch to determine which one is the master drive).  Fourth step: If by chance you find a drive connected to a blue cable (like mentioned in step 3), connect it to a red cable (the ends are red).  There you go! My issue for now is that whenever I right-click on my CD drive in my computer, my explorer.exe crashes, but if I wait a bit, it tells me: Windows cannot read from this disk, maybe it is damaged, blah blah blah...  But it can read non-blank CDs.

Well, I had the same problem, and by connecting another hard drive in place of mine, I had connected its ribbon cable to the cable of the CD-DVD drive, and the latter's cable was connected to the hard drive.. This didn't cause a problem for the hard drive, but the CD-DVD drive didn't read anything, although it was spinning.  I hope I helped you.
