Hello again everyone,
Because you never know... I have owned the Micrografx Designer 3.1 software for several years, but over time I misplaced the program disks, and when I transferred this program to my new computer with Windows XP, the function to Export a DRW file to TIF or PCX no longer works... Designer won’t do it anymore!!! How can I fix this???
If you have a workaround, I’m eager to know it because I use it a lot for my work as a graphic designer...
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you soon.
Configuration: WINDOWS XP PC

Hello,
I had the impression I had provided the information to fix this issue, but apparently not, so I’m reiterating:
- to export .DRW files created by Micrograph Designer 3.1 (a very good product that has disappeared), you need to install this software on XP with the necessary export libraries and recognition settings in the old win.ini still recognized by the system
The installation is reduced to copying the files to the correct directories. I have all of that, I found the sources on a CD backup, it works and I use it
note: of course you must use installation paths of the standard 8-character type so that it recognizes it
for example:
[Micrografx]
Designer 3.1=C:\DESIGNER
Libraries 4.0=C:\DESIGNER\MGXLIBS
ClipArt=C:\DESIGNER\MGXLIBS\CLIPART
[Designer 3.1]
Warning=1
ClipArt=C:\DESIGNER\MGXLIBS\CLIPART
A+-
Thank you, thank you, thank you! It works!
I had indeed copied the MGXLIBS and DESIGNER folders from the CD containing the backup of my antique PC (rest its soul) but I hadn’t thought to copy the corresponding lines from win.ini of my old Windows 3.1 to the one in my WinME.
I had never managed to get used to Designer 7 and I’m very glad to be able to rework my files under this old 3.1 version. -

I’ve been using Designer 3.1 for many years and I must admit I’ve tried to replace it without ever succeeding. Even today, in the era of Windows Seven, this software remains irreplaceable for me!
Can you imagine my disappointment when I realized that my dear software wouldn’t work anymore!
Well, I finally found THE solution! I installed Virtual Box which allowed me to use a virtual SE, namely Windows XP, and my Designer 3.1 works beautifully again! -

To retrieve a DRW file from Designer 3.1, you just need to do a pseudo print with PDF Creator. The result is excellent and allows all the imports you want into any modern software.
Designer 3.1 is irreplaceable and runs on any machine that still supports 16-bit applications.
