No image in the movie maker edit

Hello!
When I edit a montage with my videos (in AVI) in Windows Movie Maker, I save the video but when I play it, I only get sound, no image
I have tried to play the video with Windows Media Player, Winamp, RealPlayer but the same problem persists

    Actually, the videos I put are in .avi
    but I can watch them in Collections, but as soon as I put them on the timeline, there's no more image.

    I had the same problem and after digging a bit, after installing the K-Lite pack, I went to Tools => Options => Compatibility and there everything was checked except ffdshow video decoder, so I checked it, and I had the images ;)

    I'm bad at computers, so it's a bit of a silly question, what is a codec? And how do I change it?

    Hi, you need to set the French Pal/Secam system in the video settings of Movie Maker.
    If it’s still the same, the SCART input of the VCR (if you're using it) is not compliant. The video and audio outputs don’t match. It's not a codec issue.

    I have the same problem as Bammargera42
    I installed the k-lite codecs full pack --https://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Multimedia/codecs/fiches/26950.html -- and it's all in English. I went to tools then options (I DID NOT FIND COMPATIBILITIES) and I had a whole list of options to check. For me, nothing was checked so I checked everything, I clicked next and another list appeared, I checked ffdshow (there is no ffdshow decoder) and all the other codecs - A 3rd list appeared and there was ffdshow again, I checked it with the others, I pressed next and then there was finish. I launch my video on Windows Media Player and it works but not on Movie Maker only the sound.

    Did I install the wrong software, did I do it wrong, How did you do it please help me!!

    To change things up, when you compile with Movie Maker, it offers you a format (or container: AVI, MPEG, WMV...) and then a codec (Xvid, Indeo, ....), so try using a different codec that you have already been able to play without any issues on your system.

    do I need to redo the video with Movie Maker?

    Have you recorded your videos on your hard drive before doing your editing and working from your hard drive?
